Asus Z170 Pro Gaming flash CoffeeTime mod

I have made the BIOS using CoffeeTime (for Asus Z170 Pro Gaming) but cannot flash it as AFUDOS reports BIOS write protect.

Is there some other tool I should use? FPT? How to unlock the write protect? I have both .bin and .rom versions of the BIOS.

Or MUST I use the USB programmer (I have one somewhere!) cos I have 3805 BIOS on it already

FPT only if FD is unlocked… but since you have a programmer, it will be faster and its a DIP8, easy to program outside the socket.

Thanks, I’ve done the mod and my 8600K is recognised fine but for some reason I cannot see my iGPU (need that for Quicksync). I have a Quadro M2000 as primary but there seem to be no settings anywhere for enable/disable iGPU in BIOS but I did see a iGPU voltage setting. Strange

Yes,I did update GPU Rom and GOP to latest

Any ideas?

Have you tried to debug the issue with another GPU card on?
These settings usually are present in bios settings…
Going to be straight on this… i understand the CoffeLake mode and users expectations/needs, but for me its a hell of “frankstein” operation…my pov only, i can’t help you on this matter.
[Motherboard] How to enable iGPU Multi-Monitor to have dual-screen display | Official Support | ASUS Global

@Methanoid Are you booting with CSM enabled or disabled?

Your motherboard will boot with CSM enabled by default (especially after a BIOS flash or CMOS reset) which will use whatever VBIOS OROM is in the BIOS.

You didn’t specifically mention whether you updated the VBIOS OROM to 1062 in CoffeeTime, so that could be the cause. It will need to be at least VBIOS 1059 for Coffee Lake iGPU.

Also, if you update the GOP to 9.0.11xx you need to update the VBT to 228, you can use VBT 221 with 9.0.1080 but VBT 212 with 1079 and earlier may not work.

yes I updated everything, VBIOS, GOP, VBT… I suspect the issue is the “connecting” two pads with soft pencil… cos with no GPU present I get zero display… and no boot. So have taken out and will do with a silver paint later.

Or would copper tape be better? Any experienced modders care to share?

@Methanoid A car rear window demister repair kit can do the job.

[Edit] But you will need to make a suitable template e.g. use tape to mask the pads.
