[Guide] CoffeeLake CPUs on Skylake and KabyLake mainboards

@ricolhaw - You’re welcome! You do this with tape for the pad isolation points, preferably kapton tape but other will do as long as it stays in place.
If you do not have kapton, or can’t figure out how to do it with tape you already have, then it may be best for you to purchase kapton tape sticker on ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/273337132333

For the 2 pads you need to connect, you either do with solder, or sticky conductive tape, or heavy leaded pencil.
To avoid that, there may be place on your board to solder a wire to connect from resistor or xxx point to ground, but you will have to wait on someone else to comment on that if it’s possible.
Unless you can find a free Boardview file for this model, if you can, then you can find SKTOCC and short that to GND (mounting hole) with wire and solder.
B250M-J or B250M-C probably same, but all boardview I see in google are at paid sites only, if you do pay then get one for your exact model.

1.44 for 8700k is way too high.
Your vcore spike like that is because of LLC, check your LLC setting, put it at mid-level first then try to manage it according to your liking.
I use z270 taichi, LLC level 2, in bios 1.345 for 4.8, in win 1.344 vcore, that is what you want to stop bsod/ or acidently overshot your cpu.

My board boots my 8700K to 4.7GHz with 1.44V after flashing it. I go into BIOS after flashing and set the speed multiplier to a lower value, as I don’t want to see that voltage. I have CPU Vcore LoadLine Calibration at "auto". "Standard seems the same, and "high" pushes the voltage higher. The voltage does come down after a minute or so after windows comes up. any ideas to limit this would be appreciated. It may just be my CPU - It is used, with unknown history, and does seem to have a convex heat spreader, looking at the thin paste area along the centerline of the spreader after removing the heatsink. Now I’m exploring lapping my cpu.

Has anyone been able to make a BIOS hack for MSI Z270 boards and coffeelake CPUs? I remember this was not possible in the past with MSI boards but maybe (hopefully) something has changed.

I have the Asrock H110M-DGS (the basic. Not the R3.0). The process was successful: I upgraded from Intel pentium g4600 to i3-8100 in this board.

I had the last bios with Intel ME 11.7.xxx so I had to downgrade that too.
Before BIOS update I had to do this. To be able to downgrade Intel ME FW:
[GUIDE] Coffee Lake CPUs on Skylake and Kaby Lake motherboards (8)

(I read on different topic later that asrock motherboards allows to downgrade Intel ME FW anyway, but I can’t confirm that.)

So after restart I just flashed the the modded bios which is based on the version 7.40. (The modded BIOS file attached below) This is the last BIOS containing Intel ME FW version 11.6.x

On the video bios setting part I had some trouble. The second post says I have to delete this certain line from the config. I did and saved the config file. After that I applied to the new vbios but this part somehow is still there.

I leaved that this way. I don’t think it’s affecting the system. It’s just the signon message. Altough if you have only the intel HD in your system (no pci-e video card) be aware. I didn’t tested if the iGPU works normally or not.

CPU-Z

Edit: if just find my post from google: the i3-8100 doesn’t need any modification. But if you want to use i5-8xxx or i7-8xxx read the topic carefully, because you may need to modify the cpu pins too (shorting and isolating some).

Edit2: I was worried if someone just use my bios and the iGPU won’t work so I tested that too with userbenchmark:
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/22946059
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/22945948
It’s working

@app32312 - did you get to working ?

Unfurtunetly no

Reporting success of running i3-9100F on Asus M8I:

Runs perfectly fine, seems to hold boost of c.a. 4GHz under load. Stepping is of course U0 so pad connection and isolation is required as in 6C Coffeelake CPU’s.
Good price for the performance IMO.

gentlemen good i need help from someone my motherboard and asrock h110m hg4 my processor and intel g5400 i need this modification for bios this card please can someone make the modification grateful attached to the original bios can someone do the modification.

H110M-HG4(7.40)DOS.zip (5.88 MB)

BIOS modification is not a problem. there is a tool for that.
[TOOL] Easy automated Mod tool for Coffee Lake bios

Unfortunately you need to do some small hardware modification.

I don’t see the bios download link. Can you share it ? Thanks in advance

Would you mind sharing the bios ? I fail to build it (cpu: i3 8100)

Hello! Please build new UEFI BIOS mod for notebook X540LA!
I unable build mod for this device.
Thanks

Hello to everybody,
I’ve just bought an i5 9600k for 150€ (on amazon warehouse!), I was wondering if there’s an existing mod for Asus z170 Pro gaming, and if anyone successfully run a coffee lake on it

Thanks

AHCI / RAID switch enable in this notebook and advanced / hidden settings.
Please build. My UEFI small config…
Thanks

Unlock options please for this notebook.
Sorry.

thank you

Gentlemen,

Was wondering if any of you with successful coffelake mods on Asus Z270 Apex or other Maximus boards could PM me your overclocking and voltage results? Interested in load line settings.

Thank you

do you possibly have bios for asus prime z270-p @shixinyuan

I have g5400 U0. If i put this on gigabyte h110, i must isolate that pin blue and red?

Does anyone have HT fixed bios for Maximus IX Formula already? Friend wants one for 8700K.
