@Lost_N_BIOS You think You can do it bro?
@SoniX - There is no problem, only I donāt know how/like to edit VBT - location of the module does not matter in this regard (itās in DXE volume anyway), he just wants it updated since I already updated the rest of the BIOS.
Always some problem when doing manually, or with cloneVBT (and instructions are not clear for that) - No problem doing vBIOS ever, which is similar, so something needs outlined better at first post in regards to this I guess?
@izajasz - As you already know, I cannot do that edit. I can replace the module without issue, itās the edit/transfer settings from Old VBT to New that I canāt do
Never mind - All! I just went to try again manually, and I see you have latest possible VBT already, HSW >> 189 - So, nothing more to do here, your BIOS is up to date as can be
@Lost_N_BIOS
CloneVBT - Clones VBT only in OROM VBIOS. Provided that the version and size of the source and the final file are the same.
In other cases, there will be only info.
To update the VBT for GOP, you must use the IBMP. If the transfer of settings contains warnings or errors, the settings are entered manually.
@SoniX - Thanks - But, I donāt understand about Clone VBT >> āOnly OROM vBIOSā Isnāt VBT by definition tied to and used only for GOP module (UEFI)
And thanks for clarification, to only update VBT manually for GOP. Iāve tried that in the past with BMP, didnāt work, but I see now you have added more info and instruction on this, so next time I will try again and see if it works better for me
When you have time, can you please show me example image of āWarningā and āErrorā So I can know which are which vs those that I always see in all vBIOS updates (changes marked in red that are not error/warnings)
@Lost_N_BIOS
AMD and nVidea have an OROM + GOP binding.
They have cleverly done. I didnāt fully understand it myself, but noticed that if there is an OROM, then it is possible to control some graphics functions. If there is no OROM, then control is limited even at the level of OS drivers.
Intel has everything. OROM itself, and GOP + a separate VBT file (not OROM) by itself.
In general, GOP will not work if there is no VBT file, unlike AMD or nVidea.
CloneVBT
Example:
BIOS has OROM VBIOS CoffeLake build (v) 1020. Lfatest v1026. But we do not have BSF for these versions.
At the same time, the VBIOS of the same line, the version and the size of the VBT for these OROMs are the same.
Ā
clonevbt 1020.rom 1026.rom
Ā
File 1020, rum that we extracted from our BIOS. 1026 can be any extracted from another BIOS.
As a result, we get a file version 1026 with our settings. Which is then replaced in BIOS.
As for warnings and errors during migration, they can be different
Most often, these are warnings that the size does not match. Or missing parameter.
In general, leave it as it is, if everything works. There will be nothing new except the numbers in the version.
@SoniX - Thanks for explanation there! Here now though, I am talking only motherboard BIOS OROM/GOP and VBT (The separate one, is one I was asking for help to update here, but turns out was already latest).
And I VERY rarely, if ever, update AMD/NVIDIA integrated vBIOS inside motherboard BIOS. And on graphics cards, I have no problems messing with vBIOS Legacy/GOP
Thanks for example on cloneVBT too, maybe next time I will try and see.
Next time you see warning and error during BMP transfer, if you remember, please grab an image example to add to the thread/guide for reference - thank you
Itās not necessary to go far and wait. Bright example - transferring settings for the GOP SKL-CML VBT 221 -> 228.
This is an example of warnings and errors.
@SoniX - Thanks for example idea, but Iād have to have/know BIOS with 221 in it to attempt that so I could see, maybe I will run into eventually
Hi all,
have someone RAW GOP VBT SNB/IVB Mobile version 175?
OK, itās stoneage hardware but still working.
Confused as to what I can do with mobile version 1019 and 221 - is it possible to upgrade any further?
@a.mihail91
Unfortunately, OROM VBIOS 1019 cannot be updated to 1026; we do not have the source BSF and OROM VBIOS files for CFL.
Updating the VBT for the latest versions of GOP Drivers I think that they can help you.
Indicate your current versions of the VBT and GOP Drivers.
9.0.1085
and
221
@SoniX instructions arenāt clear as to what I can and canāt do on this version. UBU wants to update 1085 to 1108 but then my BIOS screen boots flipped.
EDIT: When trying it with VBT 230 I found on the forums my machines goes into a black screen boot loop.
@snixel @dsanke
Please help @a.mihail91 to transfer the settings from eo CFL VBT 221 to 228, so that the screen is not normal, not mirror.
Tnanx.
@a.mihail91 I download BIOS file from this link [REQUEST] Razer Blade 15 2018 BIOS Modding
Updated GOP VBT to v228 and GOP to v9.0.1107 , and try unhide menus.
You should see RD MODE Support in Chipset tab , set it to Enabled , and hidden menus should show up.
Rename .7z.zip to .7z before you extract it.
Charlotte1_0108-vBIOS1019-GOP1107.7z.zip (5.06 MB)
I use an already modded BIOS - maybe you can show me how to update GOP myself?
EDIT: Maybe I can use CloneVBT on your file to copy over to mine?
Got it working, thanks!
Hello, I have a Chuwi hi10 pro with the Intel cherry trail x5 z8350 and I wanted to change the default display Mode to landscape modifiying the gop vbt settings.
The problem is that when I open vbt.bin and vbt.bfs in the BMP It give me error parsing to lĆnea 0 and I dont know why.
Could anyone help me?
PD: The vbt version is 195 and the gop version is 8.0.1041
