yeah, sorry haha
upgrading the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 (rev. 1.0) bios version f7, following @Fernandoâs instructions was also successful. upgrade details at [OFFER] Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 (rev. 1.0) f7 bios NVMe modification .
thanks for the guide @Fernando . another good working board/system extended further its life, despite being immersed in a society that promotes and believes that planned obsolescence is acceptable in a universe with finite resources. oh well.

Welcome to the Win-Raid Forum!
This is a thread for users, who want and are able to do the required BIOS modification themselves.
Please follow the advices of my guide (initial post) or start a new thread with the âBIOS Modding Requestsâ Forum Category, but donât forget to post a link to the original BIOS.
Good luck!
@lotnik34
Please start a new âRequestâ thread as I have written before.
Hello all!
Motherboard gigabyte
GA-B85-HD3 (rev. 2.1)
for modified i use UEFITool.
for update with mod bios i use q-flash.
Modded files already shared here (r1.0/r2.0)
Read the guide and youâll see how can be (Temporary) visible in bios.
Your mod seems done correctly.
I found the problem)) the board wasnât fully inserted. My modified file also worked. I checked by downloading the file from the link you sent and mine. NVMe was visible in the BIOS with both firmware versions. Thank you.
Hello, I have the very same motherboard. I am not that tech-savvy to alter bios just yet. Is there any chance to get a hold of the modded bios with NVME support on a PCI-E adapter card?
Hello Guys,
Iâve an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 mother board, it has an M.2 slot and Iâve connected an NVME SSD 1TB and its not been detected in the bios can someone please help? Iâm running BIOS ver 1.13 downloaded from MSI website
Thanks,
NVME modules are already present in the motherboard, so itâs probably not BIOS issue. Have you tried your SSD on other motherboards, or another SSD on your MSI board?
@mooneer
Welcome to the Win-Raid Forum!
Where did you get the BIOS v1.13? According to >this< MSI Support page the latest BIOS for your mainboard is v1.D, which definitely should support booting off an NVMe SSD.
If you should have a problem to get any Windows OS installed onto the NVMe SSD, please look into the âStep 4â section of my guide (initial post of tthis thread).
Good luck!
Hello @Fernando ,
Thank you for your reply,
Please see some pictures of my bios and NVME. Its the same bios from MSI website which Iâve downloaded and installed. Thanks a lot for your support
The motherboard itself already support nvme:
Have you tried to make your bios to boot purely on UEFI (CSM Disabled, secure boot enabled + secure boot keys installed)?
@mooneer
Where is your NVMe SSD connected? Are you sure, that the on-board M.2 port supports the NVMe protocol? Maybe this port has been designed by MSI for SATA AHCI. In the latter case you have to connect your NVMe SSD to a suitable PCIe slot.
By the way - your BIOS pictures are not a proof, that booting off an NVMe SSD is not possible with the current BIOS. You should keep in mind, that Z97 mainboard generally were constructed and delivered without full NVMe support. MSI has added later on the required NVMe EFI BIOS modules, but maybe didnât update the other NVMe related BIOS features.
Based on the website, it does support pcie ssd, and pointing that the bios itself support it (nvme) natively, and given that the user didnât use sata 5 and 6, the nvme should appear:
The M.2 port is sharing lanes between sata 5 and 6, and since the user has not use both port, shouldnât it appear regardless itâs UEFI or Legacy?
I did find something interesting here.
Maybe pop up any OS installer and see if the OS installer could detect it, and straight up install the OS to the nvme drive, see if it worked (could boot to nvme without any fiddling)?
EDIT: I found something here, try to boot to your current OS or any linux live usb, and convert the NVMe ssd to GPT partition @mooneer, dont forget to make the Bios mode to UEFI only, not Legacy + UEFI. Afterwards, install the OS to the gpt partioned nvme drive.
Hello @Koekieezz and @Fernando
Iâve Manage to see the NVME drive now by turning on the following:
- Windows 8/8.1 configuration ,
- Enable Intel Rapid Start Technology
- Enable Raid Mode in Intergrated Peripherals
- you can see it in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology
However I cannot boot from it as I donât see it in the boot menu
Can you please help
Did you previously install an OS on that disk? Was it installed in Legacy (non-UEFI settings) as MBR and not GPT?
Time to perform a new clean USB x64 OS install, this time Fast boot Enable, CSM disable, secure boot is optimal, later can be set to Enable, this will ensure a PURE UEFI environment needed for UEFI NVMe boot.
Good luck.
@mooneer
Did you ever follow my advice, which I gave you >here<?
Due to the fact, that MSI hasnât given full NVMe support to your mainboard, you will never see the name of your NVMe SSD as âbootable deviceâ within the BIOS. Nevertheless you will be able to boot off it, if you follow âStep 4â of my Guide (=initial post).
