I own a HP Pavilion 15-ec2004AX laptop. OS Windows 10 22H2 BIOS v - F28
Recently I have been facing black screen issue repeatedly after BIOS update. I have tried to rollback the bios to earlier version F25 using Firmware Management (F2) but error "BIOS Rollback failed unable to open BIOS Signature file "
Subsequently I tried OS reinstall which surprisingly worked and Laptop was issue free for some time. To avoid reoccurrence the windows update was paused. Things appear to go smoothly however yesterday the black screen issue reappeared again
Here are my concerns:
even after windows update were paused how the issue reappeared
I tried to install the latest BIOS version available F29 which got rolled back automatically by the system to F28?
I am also unable to access advanced bios setting which seems locked by HP??
This is a priority task on retail systems running windows OS environment, some OEMs are already including a bios option to control it, have seen it in Lenovo bioses.
By HP EXE file on windows or ESC/F10/F2 with usb disk, OS independent operation? Same behaviour?
Not uncommon on Branded Retail machines… do you mean they were factory un-hidden in earlier versions and now not visible in F.28…typical.
Firmware related?..doubt it.
Note, there’s 2 product ID’s on this laptop model, 3E3R5PA and 3E3R5PAR, signature/capsule could fail on checking the board platform if wrong F.29A file selected.
EDIT: Seems you’re a “rollbacker”… posts from 2024??? Besides offical HP and others warnings users keep doing these rollbacks and messing with the “whole” machine firmware…till they get “death” systems, modern fws is a lot more sensitive and structure compllicated, with plenty of attached hw related sub-devices, than old bioses a decade ago…
Let us know what new anwser you get from your recent HP forum post… the previous post, that a user on HP forum gave you was the correct one on flashing procedures… like he, we dont know what else the system has been subjected to… mods, attempts, fails, recovers…
Thats it…good luck.
The latest bios was updated using Firmware Management F2 with USB stick
Yes Advanced BIOS setting were disabled by HP in current BIOS version F.28
Thanks for sharing the other product ID. I checked out and both use the same board ID 088
Rollbacker - LOL well no but all other suggested options fail to resolve the issue. HP Forum is not quite up to the mark with solutions. However I’m little stubborn to stop trying
Sir… This is a public forum, not selling any services or products, nor a HP complaint/repair service, with no obligation to users.
Contact a reputed repair center for a deep analysis/full system programming.
All the best.
A final tip: The system may need a full firmware programming, using original system ids/data of the system, applying a full firmware image complete with all regions, this image may need CSME re-initializtion/cleaning and all should be done with an IC SPI programmer.
Users with no past experience in these operations/methods/tools used, should look for professinal services of repair centers, as this is not teached in a “blink of an eye” and may not be an easy task for who ever havent done it once.
Sir … Never meant that way. It is not obligatory on anyone including urself to respond to my queries. I mentioned the price of laptop as a response to ur remark on stubbornness only
