Hi everyone,
I am experiencing a severe BIOS and Intel Management Engine (ME) issue with my HP ZBook Studio G4 workstation (Core i7-7820HQ / 32GB RAM).
Symptoms & Current Status
The Intel ME Firmware version is displaying as “0.0.0.0” in both the BIOS and system information.
Shortly after powering on the laptop normally, the screen goes completely black, and the system freezes.
Removing and reseating the CMOS battery temporarily restores the display and allows the system to boot.
The internal laptop display frequently malfunctions; however, connecting an external monitor via HDMI allows me to successfully access Windows.
“HECI Disabled” and related communication errors appear during startup and immediately upon booting into Windows.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken
Successfully flashed the official HP BIOS (Ver 01.49) via USB. While the main BIOS update completes, the Intel ME region fails to update, and the core issue persists.
Attempted to run the official HP Intel ME Firmware update package (sp151136), but the updater executable refuses to open.
Ran the official Intel diagnostic tool (MEInfoWin64.exe), which immediately returns: “Error 76: Communication error between application and Intel(R) ME module (AMT client).”
Conclusion & Request
Having exhausted all software-based and USB flashing methods, it is highly evident that the Intel ME region is completely corrupted (indicated by the 0.0.0.0 version), causing the HECI bridge to become unresponsive.
I am looking for guidance on how to properly clean and re-flash the ME region or any advanced hardware-level solutions to resolve this corruption. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated!
