I know the Aurora R7 officially tops out at the i7-8700K, but from what I’ve read, the only thing really blocking a 9900K upgrade is the BIOS — specifically a chipset microcode block. In theory, a mod or microcode injection could get it working. It is a z370 motherboard.
That said, I’ve never done this before. I work with embedded systems, so I get the risks, but this is my daily machine and I’m not looking to brick it.
Has anyone here successfully run a 9900K on an R7? Or done something similar? Would really appreciate any pointers before I dive into unfamiliar territory.
Thanks.

What makes you say it’s a lack of mcode?. Have you done or flashed any bios mode to a motherboard before? Do you know how to recover a failed mod? Etc…etc
No info, bios, dump provided…answers are limited besides a user with same system and done it before…
If it is Dell Alienware Aurora R7 desktop PC, then, yes, even in the latest BIOS recovery image v. 1.0.26 from Feb. 2022 microcodes 906EC & 906ED for newer high-end CoffeeLake CPUs are missing:

It’s possible to replace some unneeded microcode by a needed one, but flashing a modded BIOS into Dell protected system would be a TROUBLE…
