I’m trying to revive my Machinist X99 MR9A-H(the BIOS chip is a Winbond W25Q128JV) after a failed BIOS flash so i bought a CH347 with a SOIC8 clip in order to flash the BIOS. However, when i connect everything together the programmer fails to even detect the chip and it gets hot to the touch(weirdly enough, the BIOS chip stays cool). In terms of flashing software, i tried both AsProgrammer on Windows 11 and flashrom on Linux, the programmer itself gets detected properly in both environments.
Below i’m including a pic of my setup, I also want to make sure if i’m plugging everything in properly(it’s my first time doing this)
Do check if the clip pins are not shorting when attached to IC legs, it’s not supposed to get hot in anyway… you IC is 3,3v range, you can also measure voltage output from CH341A, if this is one of those old models that were outputting 5v and need a 3,3v mod.
How can i check if the clip pins are not causing a short? Also this is a CH347, not a CH341A so i don’t think that one suffers from the 5V data line issue.
On some boards you would need external power from the PSU. Try to attach 8pin and 24pin cable, turn on the PSU (but dont power on the board), then connect CH347 to the computer. I would personally recommend using NeoProgrammer over AsProgrammer.
I believe that all recent LGA2011-3 Chinese boards with HM55/H55 chipset have support for V4 processors. Do they not work on your board? Can you share a dump?
