[Problem] I need the HP OMEN 17-ck1020nr (3070ti) VBIOS

Hey everyone!

I have an HP OMEN 17-ck1020nr (i7-12700H, 3070ti), a few months ago I was using it, unplugged while watching youtube videos, the laptop suddenly froze, so I waited some time to see if it might recover, but since nothing happened, I turned it off and after that it didn’t turn on.

I sent it to a tech place, they managed to turn it on and working. However the gpu wasn’t working, they tried reballing, it initializes but won’t display, and drivers throw Code 43.

Since then, the laptop works fine, but like a normal laptop, without the dedicated gpu.

They told me that they could try to fix it, but I really don’t want to spend more money.

But here is the thing that got me thinking

- I managed to update all the drivers, even the BIOS, but the nvidia drivers won’t install

- On the HP gaming hub it just appears with the CPU and RAM, before the disaster, it showed the GPU

- I tried using the HP recovery cloud, but it failed with error 0XFFEE016

- HP pc hardware diagnostics detects the RTX 3070 Ti and reports all tests as “passed”

So I was looking for other methods to fix it and came across a video on youtube that showed how to flash the BIOS of the GPU, it looked easy, but I couldn’t find the BIOS on techpowerup.com, I found one for a Zephyrus G15 2022 and another for the ROG Flow X16 that are for the RTX 3070 Ti Mobile 8 GB. And on GPU-Z, BIOS Version it says "Unknown” so there is no way to check if that .rom file could work.

I want to know if by flashing the BIOS with NVIDIA NVFlash could help me revive it? And if someone could send me the .rom file for this hp laptop (at least I could try)?

Any other advice is welcome, thanks!

Here’s a screenshot of what gpu z shows

No, didnt the technician suggested a new GPU bga ic, besides reball…cause probably as he surely knows or told you, this is the cause of the issue and no vbios will fix it, as obvious.
You may wait for other users PoV, good luck.

Well the technician told me that they could try reprogramming the BIOS or something like that, I thought that it might be the vbios because of what it shows on gpu z, but he also told me that I’ll need to wait more time so more bios updates appear or someone online has the file so they could try again, but I already spent $300 on fixing it hoping it could work again because when it died it was out of the blue, and hp solution was telling me to buy another laptop because they don’t have support for this laptop

Well… as a tech repair as he claims, he does the job and charge the service or not…if the system had a vbios corruption to fix why didnt he then…

This is common with issues on the bga solder spheres of the ic or with a defective GPU bga ic

No logic at all by all previous said, even if indeed HP releases updates… and he knows it…

What… he charged that amount for his reballing service… thats the same value of putting a new GPU bga ic… - + 350-375

Again…bear in mind that this only my personal opinion on the subject.

The price was also because for some strange reason when the gpu decided to go to heaven, it took with him the screen and the charging port (keep in mind that the laptop was unplugged), so it was that pricey because the screen was like 50-60% of the total cost.
And yeah, I have my doubts about that, because I know that reballing is 50-50 chance, and when I went online to check for new bios updates, I compared the bios that it had installed, supposedly they tried with the latest version and I found one from like 2 weeks before they gave me the laptop, and the one it came was like from 3 or 4 months old.
Do you know where I could find the new GPU? They told me that the other option to restore it was that, but I’ve search online on ebay and with the IA and nothing, I have just found my laptop, not just the GPU.
Don’t worry at all, I’m grateful for your opinion :+1:

These parts are usually not localy avaiable for end users, IT repair shops can sell it anyway, they dont care if the user is just a “curious” one if know what i mean…
Aliexpress, eBay(Chinese users mostly) and other “Electonics” market hubs have it…but this is really no task for end users and it requires the right tools/bench (not cheap) and experience.

Great! I tried looking on Aliexpress, but I wasn’t using the “correct words“, I’ll look with the example you gave me and see what I can find, because honestly, for that price, I might just keep it as a normal laptop or sell it for parts and hope I can recover some of the amount I spent on fixing it.

Thanks a lot!

I have that same exact laptop with it fully working. Do you need the vbios from mine?

That would be amazing! Thanks!

I tried sending it to the Techpowerup database, but they said they already had the vbios. Here is the one that they have on there now.

The vbios posted in that link apparently was the same exact one as on my current laptop.

Great! Strange that when I tried searching it up on techpowerup, it said that there were no VBIOS for that HP, but well, I’ll try flashing it with that one. Thanks!
