Hello! I am contacting the forum with a request, I would like to have one or more original bios for an Asrock 970 extreme 4 ver1.03, please if possible someone could post it, thank you!
You want bios v1.30 from 30/08/11, is this correct?
Motherboard revision 1.03 is not an issue on ASRock bios files, explain yourself, the goal of this request.
I would need a v1.03 motherboard 2.30 BIOS, or at least a BIOS that is compatible with the FX-8350/8320 processor, thank you!
AM3+ FX FD8350FRW8KHK 125W Vishera
AM3+ FX FD8320FRW8KHK 125W Vishera
AM3+ FX FD832EWMW8KHK 95W Vishera
Supported on bios version P2.60
970 Extreme4(2.30)WIN.zip (2.8 MB)
Latest version 2.80… still dont get it, you lack the knowledge…cant express yourself or you’re using a bad translator…
Then I’ll try to put it differently, so I need the BIOS of the Asrock 970 extreme 4 motherboard version 1.03, not the 2.0 motherboard version, but one of the 1.03 motherboard version’s bios that is compatible with the Amd FX-8350/8320 processors, in the .bin extension or in the original form, obviously packaged in a zip (970ext4.230 or ASRock 970 Extreme4 P2.30), I hope it’s understandable. Thank you!
So the motherboard is an Asrock 970 extreme 4 ver. 1.03, I want to write to a bios chip using CH341A
Well…do you see any separate support webpages for both revisions, 1.03 and 2.0… i’m too stupid or getting old or you’re fxxxxx with us all… as i dont see any mentions to a 1.03 support page or a 2.0 support page…
Can you show us that?
ASRock bios files to Instant Flash, are ready to use in programmer, in this case the last one is P2.80 (970EX2.80), not the DOS/Windows versions to download.
If this is an initial build of the 970 Extreme4 mb and doesnt support later FX cpus, then it’s ASRock board design and cpu/voltage support limitation, not a a bios mod miracle fix, that’s why there’s only a single webpage support for this model and general bios releases.
And this ends here and now.
Just to clarify the confusion about the ASRock 970 Extreme4 revisions — there are actually two different hardware versions of this motherboard, even though they share the same name.
Here’s the technical breakdown:
| Motherboard Revision | Printed on PCB | BIOS chip | BIOS filename | File size | Compatible BIOS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 970 Extreme4 (rev 1.03) | “REV 1.03” | Winbond 25Q32 (4MB) | 970EXT4.230 | 4,194,304 bytes | |
| 970 Extreme4 2.0 | “REV 2.0” | Winbond 25Q64 (8MB) | 970EX2.80 | 8,388,608 bytes |
They are not cross-compatible.
The “EX2.xx” BIOS versions (e.g. 2.60, 2.80) are for the 2.0 revision only, and will not work on the older rev 1.03 board.
The rev 1.03 board uses a smaller 4 MB flash chip (Winbond 25Q32), while the newer 2.0 board uses an 8 MB chip (Winbond 25Q64).
If you flash an EX2.xx BIOS to the older rev 1.03 board, the board will not POST — the fans spin but no beeps or display output, since the image layout is completely different.
Here’s a photo of my PCB showing “REV 1.03”, confirming the older revision.
(attach photo here)
Also, my original dumped BIOS from the chip is exactly 4 MB, not 8 MB, confirming the smaller flash.
ASRock unfortunately merged the support pages for both revisions, so it looks like there’s only one board, but the BIOS binaries themselves are not interchangeable.
Please be careful — use 970EXT4.230 for rev 1.03 boards and 970EX2.80 for rev 2.0 boards.
If anyone still has the original 970EXT4(2.30).zip Instant Flash package, please share it — it’s no longer hosted on ASRock’s site.
I understood the revision part sir…
I’m sorry… your sources seems a bit odd, i have here several archived bios versions
The file 2.80 with me its a 4096kb (970EX2.80)…not 8Mb file.
The same for the 2.30 version…a 4096kb.
I have NO bios files with 8Mb in the 14 bios version files archived…can you explain this?
A bigger IC doesnt mean nothing… previous owner could changed that and bought a new one or in rare cases and there were, some boards had an 8Mb IC with a 4Mb image.
And you dont need no Instant Flash 2.30, they are not available anymore but the firmware can be extracted… i’m simply not in the “mood” with all these expert visions from you, dinner time for me, good luck.
Thank you for clarifying and for your time — I really appreciate it.
You’re absolutely right that BIOS file size alone doesn’t define compatibility, and I didn’t mean to imply that.
My point was only that the board I have (confirmed printed “REV 1.03” on PCB, Winbond 25Q32 chip) won’t POST at all when flashed with any EX2.xx image, even though flashing and verification succeed.
So there’s definitely some hardware-level difference (VRM controller or embedded device IDs) that makes the EX2 BIOS not boot on this revision, regardless of image size.
I’m not trying to argue — just documenting what I’ve tested, in case it helps others with older boards that also fail to POST after flashing EX2.xx versions.
Thanks again for your input, and I’ll keep looking for the original 970EXT4.230 file. If I find it, I’ll share it here for completeness.
If anyone still has the 970EXT4.230, please upload it!
Try check this.
Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it returns a 404 error — looks like the file has been removed from ASRock’s server.
If anyone still has a local copy of 970EXT4(2.30)ROM.zip (for the older 970 Extreme4 rev 1.03 board), could you please upload or share a mirror?
Once I get it, I’ll verify the hashes and re-upload it here so others with the same revision can use it safely.
