i had a look; if you want to use the usb tool in the zip in the third post at the top of this thread its simple to update it, copy the newer “TPM20_5.63.3353.0_to_TPM20_5.66.19374.2.BIN” into the folder with the other bin files, then edit 1.nsh using notepad to add the line @TPMFactoryUpd.efi -update tpm20-emptyplatformauth -firmware TPM20_5.63.3353.0_to_TPM20_5.66.19374.2.BIN
to the list.
you might also want to delete “2.nsh” to avoid risk of running it by mistake.
the readme in that tool tells you to clear and wipe the tpm, which will delete your bitlocker and hello/fido login keys etc causing hassle, but you dont actually need to.
regardless of that, especially if you use bitlocker, make sure you have access to your bitlocker recovery key and any alternative login methods etc before doing anything, as there is a risk you could be locked out.
for the rest of the process after doing the above:
put the tool on a empty fat32 usb (and eject it after its done to avoid corruption),
reboot to bios/uefi,
disable secureboot and tpm,
save changes and reboot to bios/uefi,
boot to the usb/tool from the bios/uefi boot menu,
you might need to wait a moment for the tool to load but dont press anything until you’re presented with two options,
press “1” when prompted, that will run the 1.nsh (it will show 5.63 for option 1 but that’s cosmetic don’t worry about that),
it will spend some time updating the tpm then shutdown automatically,
after the computer has turned off boot again to bios/uefi,
enable secureboot and tpm,
save changes and reboot,
double check secure boot and tpm is enabled and that tpm is updated to 5.66.
Hello, I just received the TPM module, but the firmware is too old. The version is 5.40.1971.2
These update files don’t work on my module because they are for updates 5.51, 5.60, 5.61, 5.62 and 5.63 because I need update file 5.40.1971.2_to_5.63…BIN
Can you help me? I can’t find any update from 5.40 to 5.6x
Did you check on the website of your motherboard ? for example : Asus has a TPM update from 5.51 to 5.53 . I cannot find any website for updating from version 5.40 to 5.66 . Are you sure you have this version ? I never seen any version like this for this TPM module. I bought this TPM years ago and I already had version 5.51. I updated to 5.53 (from Asus website). Recently I updated to version 5.66 by the help of someone here on this website.
I bought it from Aliexpress 2 weeks ago. I don’t know why there is such an old firmware.
Half a year ago I bought such a module from the same seller and the version was 5.53 which I easily upgraded to 5.63. I really don’t know why a newer chip comes with older firmware
EDIT:
Okay, I found firmware
Thanks to Badcaps website:
There is an archive that contains 5.40 to 5.62. Because my TPM chip ends with .2, the latest firmware for me is 5.62.3126.2 and works fine. For TPM chips that have “5.62.3126.2” firmware, there is no 5.63 or 5.66 version upgrade at the moment.
How to upgrade:
Download the zip file, copy the file “TPM20_5.40.1971.2_to_TPM20_5.62.3126.2.BIN“ to the folder with all other BIN files
Edit “1.nsh“ and add: @TPMFactoryUpd.efi -update tpm20-emptyplatformauth -firmware TPM20_5.40.1971.0_to_TPM20_5.62.3126.2.BIN
Save the 1.nsh, then boot from the flash drive and run 1 for upgrade
