[Request] Mod ASUS Z170-A with enabled Intel PTT (TPM 2.0)

I have no idea what I’m doing Mr I just wan’t TPM 2.0 to work So i can use an anticheat client without updating my entire system :joy: this is above my paygrade on so many levels hence me looking for assistance here, tried several guides and fumbling over and over due to lack of knowledge on the subject.

I don’t even understand what you mean with the data block of code… Simple guides I can do but I feel like im out of my league every step haha.

Do you mean that 0x800 = all code between 0>800 copy and paste to the .bin file? I tried it but didn’t seem to change filesize.

Thank you for your time.

Okay so I copied all the 0x800 code from the og asus cap and did “paste write” on the modded .bin file and saved it as .CAP but still no file size change, what am I missing?

Same size even after copying the 0x800 :E

Dont know… you know that the copy block data is to ADD to the top of the mod file right???
Just a reminder… as “Greeny” as you are, do you know at least how to recover the mb if the mod/flash fails and stays a “Death” system board… think twice for your own sake.
That’s all from me regarding your issue, good luck_OVER_N_OUT.

That did the trick with the filesize, I added the 0x800 instead of copying and pasting it! After flashing with AISuite it rebooted in to the bios this time and completed the installation in the EZFlash suite, but still no PCH-FW in bios, cleared cmos after the install as instructed but nothing.. No I do not but it’s either this or buying a completely new system due to faceit anticheat forcing me to run TPM 2.0 haha, I guess i’ll figure it out and it can’t be more complicated than this I presume, got the bios on my laptop and USB ready just in case.

If this fails I have no other option than buying new cpu/mobo

Thank you for helping out @MeatWar ! Hopefully I’ll figure it out.

that file not unlocking the menu just changing the default value for PTT.

Okay so how and when do I implement this file do get access to the Trusted Computing menu? is the .bin file you provided all I need to get TPM 2.0 up and running? Am I supposed to combine the bin file and the cap file from asus website? Am I supposed to modify the bin file?

In other words could someone help a “greeny” figuring out how to get PTT/TPM working on my Z170-A in simpler terms ? I have no experience in modifying bios and it seems like wherever I go there is required knowledge without any direction on how to acquire said knowledge

it seems like wherever I go there is required knowledge without any direction on how to acquire said knowledge

are you sure with that?, then you still don’t know how this forum is intentionally for self learning and the wisdom you seek is all around the place, you only need curiosity + spare time to go to the journey .

it’s consuming time for making such an unlocked bios, probably tonight or tomorrow i will make the mod.

I meant overall not from you guys this is a deeper subject than I thought haha, and I actually managed to activate TPM after many tries!

I followed the guide on reddit once again but with a fresh mindset and figured out that the mistake I made earlier was formatting the USB drive via Rufus with Grub 2.1.2 instead of >Grub4DOS 0.4.6a< which allowed me to execute “setup_var 0x6A6” etc. commands without any hassle and now I’m sitting with fully functioning TPM 2.0, earlier I got way too focused on the previous steps and not realizing I was already at the finish line!

Thank you guys for your time @karfel @MeatWar

Hi. I still get EFI module and ME firmware from here from time to time. I just haven’t logged in to my account.

Hello all.

Could this article work in theory for my Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha (Z170 chipset)?
I’ve tried several methods to enable TPM 2.0 / PTT and the last resource would be to mod the BIOS.

@f0sha @MeatWar @karfel @maxdarksol @Fernando

sorry for the tag, I see the last comments are recent so I hope you can help me!

Thank you!

model?

It is in my Screenshot, sorry forgot to type it.

Hello @karfel and thank you for that modded BIOS.

I’ve tried flashing it using @MeatWar method by converting the .bin to .cap and the conversion went good but

it didn’t work when I tried flashing it using EZ flash 3 and even tried with USB BFB bcs my mobo has the option. Tried AFUWINx64 /GAN with the bin file but didn’t work also, maybe I’m doing smth wrong, tried AFUDOS with the converted .cap file but I think it would be the best if I somehow find a method to flash it as it is, .bin.

Can you guys please assist me? I’ve been trying to make it work for the past two days.

Thank you!

Andrew

USB BFB for CAP mods, EZ only for older boards, not yours.
On your model only USB BFB as CAPsulated or Intel FPT tool as it is .BIN

Hello again,

I receive this error when trying to flash with FPT: Error 368: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space.
FPT Operation Failed.

I tried many versions of fixes but without any luck, can you please help me? @MeatWar

Maybe you can provide the CAPsulated version of the Modded BIOS so I can use the USB BFB method @karfel

P.S I couldn’t find any guide to use the UEFItool and unlock the write protection foir my specific mobo.

Thank you!
Andrew

Me??? No sir, sorry i’m not the mod author and no time for this.

No sir, I kindly asked @karfel to do it if possible.

open the stock image in UEFITool then replace the UEFI Image with the file bios in repo, save with naming BFB for your motherboard + rename .CAP.

Here @aandreww , the added capsule ready to use for bios flashback use from the link @karfel provided above: M8HA.zip (8.4 MB) (this is the non-modded for xeon processor compability one, so intel ptt should work.)

Here is how you do bios flashback on that board:

*tip: Use any low capacity usb drive, format it as fat32 OR make a 2gb partition on the flash drive and format it as fat32, and put the .cap to the flash drive.
