Hope someone can help.

@toxstoxs - Main issue here will be flashing mod BIOS. Is this AMD or Intel system? Do you have a flash programmer like CH341A?
If not, you may have to order one because often only much older BIOS than you mention can be modified and you’d have to use those older BIOS and program in directly. You need CH341A + SOIC8 test clip with cable, let me know if you need linked examples
Please link me to the stock BIOS download page at HP. And, please give me an image of the exact error you see on screen. Please also give me the full exact model off the sticker

@Lost_N_BIOS

System is AMD Turion X2

i do have that programmer but i do not feel myself so sure to open the laptop to reach the bios Chip.

Appear to me that official HP page does no loger exist. i took BIOS file (F43) here : https://us.driverscollection.com/_472973…ash-v.F.43-free

Exact model is : DV9308nr

the HALT Screen is this :

Programmer is only way for AMD, and since you are not on early BIOS, and BIOS download page is gone so we can’t get much older
But, we can try with stock package and see outcome. Main thing is if this is RSA signed internally, and we are allowed to flash in mod BIOS, then it will brick, so you would have to do programmer anyway.
And due to that, it’s best to do it up front, that way you get a working backup off the chip first, then if brick you know you can recover, without that you may not be able to

I checked, and it looks like it may be OK (not RSA Signed internally) IF we can get it to flash in mod BIOS, this will be main struggle
Please wait, I will see if I can find and bypass the error for you

@toxstoxs - what is the original cards vendor and device ID, and the subsystem ID? If you are not sure, put the card back in and check in device manager

Also, please give me the exact model of your new card so I can try to look up it’s same info as above. If you know this info for the new card, or can get it on another system, give me that as well.

@Lost_N_Bios

Sorry for delay i was without PC for a while…
here are the cards…
bigger one is the OLD (defective).

i will try to see if i can get the Device ID from Windows.
Edit :

HW ID of original card is :

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4311&SUBSYS_1375103C

thank’s

@toxstoxs - Thanks! Found the place that needs edited, but I need you to install that new card on something that allows it to work, so you can get same info for it.
This is a must because of the following, there’s several types of those cards and I need to know the exact one you have so I can add in the correct ID info.

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_661711AD Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_663711AD Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_A118185F Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_E047105B Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0037&SUBSYS_661711AD Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0037&SUBSYS_663711AD Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 Wireless Network Adapter

unless i can try to plug in the new card into the Dv9308 while it’s working and see if the system recognize the card… i would NOT have anywhere where i can plug in the card to give you what you ask.

@Lost_N_BIOS

---------------------

well… gone better than i thought…

i plugged in the new card and here is the ID :

just for fun i pluuged in also a Ac-8260 with a m.sata adapter and system recognized it as well…

@Lost_N_BIOS

Wow, I would have highly suggested against hot-plug, good to see it went over OK and no damage!
Thanks, I will work on this and get back to you shortly

* Edit - @toxstoxs - Here is mod BIOS, old card is still there, I inserted new ones ID in place of some other one instead, so once flashed you should be able to use either
If this fails to flash, or bricks, then you will need to get flash programmer like CH341A + SOIC8 test clip with cable to fix. If you have those now, do not use this, dump the current BIOS and send to me and I will do the mod on the dump instead
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…757355704757011

Run as Admin, Upon opening the WinPhlash 32 or 64 bit, click “Advanced Settings” then check and uncheck the boxes so it looks like this:

(“Flags” Tab):
[ ] Verify BIOS part number
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is different
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is newer
[ ] Verify BIOS image size
[ ] Verify BIOS checksum
[ ] Zero block before erasing
[x] Verify block after programming
[x] Disable Axx swapping automatic detection (if present)
[ ] Clear CMOS Checksum

(“DMI” tab)
“Update”: Select “Update the BIOS and not DMI”

Briked…

after flash… does not POST anymore…

@Lost_N_BIOS

@toxstoxs - Very sorry to hear, I suspected it might I guess we should have waited and had you dump with programmer first instead.
You’ll need CH341A + SOIC8 test clip cable to fix, let me know if you need linked examples on ebay. There may be some recover method via hotkey and USB, but you’d have to google around and see if you can find.
I’d just order programmer and wait it out.

during flash… i should have made a backup of the original bios, saved on the HDD…

I own the programmer… just wonder where to find the bios chip on the board… :slight_smile:

@Lost_N_BIOS

What!? I told you in post #8 NOT to Flash that if you have programmer!!! Why did you flash it anyway? I forgot you said you had programmer already

Take off bottom of case and show me image of the board if you can’t see BIOS, it’s usually accessible with the bottom removed.

* edit @toxstoxs - Once you find BIOS chip, dump it before you do any erase or write, and WAIT for me to check, this way if possible you wont loose any system specific data (serial, UUID, NVRAM etc)
