2013 Razer Blade Pro: MEManuf Error 9271

I have a 2013 Razer Blade Pro laptop (latest manufacturer BIOS and no BIOS mods whatsoever) that’s currently on ME FW version 9.0.2.1345, and I’d like to update it to version 9.0.31.1487. If I run MEManuf I get:

Intel(R) MEManuf Version: 9.1.10.1000
Copyright(C) 2005 - 2014, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Error 9271: Flash ID 0xC22017 Intel(R) ME VSCC value mismatch
Programmed value of 0x0 doesn’t match the recommended value of 0x2045
See PCH SPI programming Guide for more details

Error 9296: MEManuf Test Failed

I’m wondering if it’s safe to proceed with flashing through FWUpdLcl, or is there something I have to do first?

From the logs it looks like a) Razer has left read/write access to the Engine region unlocked (good if you want to repair or upgrade something, bad for security) and b) they have messed up a setting (VSCC) which causes the other “mismatch” warning. Since you can restore to 9.0 firmware, in case of issues, due to Manufacturing Mode being enabled, you can try updating to the latest 9.1 firmware instead. How old is the official Razer BIOS, do you have a download link for the latest one? Run Flash Programming Tool with command “fptw -d spi.bin”, compress and attach the resulting “spi.bin” image.

The SPI image is attached, it went through with no errors.

As for the BIOS image, there’s nothing on Razer’s site or in their Synapse updater app about separate BIOS updates for this vintage laptop. The current BIOS (F04) is dated 5/20/2013 according to Speccy. Regardless, the best I could do for now is a backup with AFUWIN, which is also attached.

Edit: I contacted Razer support and F04 appears to be the latest BIOS for the model, so I don’t think there’s any separate update file.

Ok, your BIOS is definitely too old for 9.1 firmware so use FWUpdate tool with 9.0.31.1487 1.5MB.

Flashing 9.0.31.1487 appears to have succeeded, thank you.
