So my friend had a virus (the FBI one) hit his computer so saved his data, reformatted the drive and reinstalled. All is well again, but I noticed that his OROM and RST that comes preloaded are way out of date (HP system with Vista 64-bit). It is an ICH9R and the version at the Intel screen at start up is 7.6.6.1002. Now he is not using an SSD; just a regular hard drive. But I wanted to know what is the best mix of OROM and RST for this ICH9R; even if it is for a single SSD because he saw my systems and he is talking plopping down some money to buy one in the near future.
The motherboard is an Asus IPIBL-LB

@ denaba:
The latest Intel AHCI driver, which natively supports Intel ICH9R Southbridges, is the RST driver v10.8.0.1003 WHQL.
An update of the Intel RAID ROM module will only be interesting, if your friend plans to run the SSD in RAID mode or as member of a RAID array. The best Intel RAID OROM/driver combo for an ICH9R RAID system probably is v10.8.0.1303/v10.8.0.1003, but I doubt, that the OROM update from an MSM v7.6.6.1002 to an RST v10.8.0.1303 module will be successful. Usually there is not enough space within the BIOS for an 120 KB sized OROM.
Yeah, when I was poking around the data sheets it said that the flash is only 4MB.
So what then would be one that will work; and then one that is a good match, OROM and RST?
If I am right regarding the limited BIOS space for OROM modules, I recommend to update the old Intel MSM RAID ROM module v7.x.x.xxxx to the RST OROM v10.1.0.1008. The choice of the best matching Intel RST driver depends on the result of the BIOS modding procedure, the Intel SATA Controller usage (AHCI or RAID) and the OS, which is running or will be installed.
