Acer 5742 - Bios editing

Hey guys. Well, let me present a strange case. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have an Acer 5742, this model has MONO audio, that is, only the left speaker works despite it having two speaker connectors on the motherboard. (Left and right)

When I connect two speakers, only the left one works. Even on Windows playing the audio to R(right), it will continue to play all the audio on the left side. He’s stuck in Mono.

I could be wrong, but I believe Acer has disabled the right side at the BIOS level. I assume this because the Acer 5733 model has the same PEW71-La6582p board and uses stereo audio. (except 5733 doesn’t have hdmi)

Is there anything that can be done to help my case?

The Bios I’m using is this:

On the board these connectors are called JSPK1 (left) and JSPK2 (right)

Sorry but that is the most ridiculous statement.
Have done maintenance to several identical customer laptops of same model.
You have a damaged circuit/track/cable/speaker…that’s the possibility.
This is no bios level factory disable or fix by bios mod.

Hi @MeatWar Here’s the point, friend: this has already been reported on the internet. The Acer 5742 is mono, that is, it only has the left side. When the right side is connected it does not work.

When I used the PEW71-LA6582p of the Acer 5733, which has stereo audio, it works on both sides. However, on this same board for 5742 the audio is mono and for some reason the right side doesn’t work.

I’ll share some reports I found about this problem:

In the case above, the user didn’t even have JSPK2 on the board:

“I add Jspk2 port and two resistors to aspire 5742z from aspire 5733z, but both L and R channel coming from both speakers(still MONO)”

Unfortunately Acer’s limited support was not forthcoming to investigate. So I think it’s some bios setting.

Ok… not going to discuss this… never come across this issue or know of it.
Theres always a first time for everything, right.
Then i was just a lucky guy that never seen this issue on all AS5742xx that i touched, good luck and all the best.
