I’ve skimmed this section thinking there was going to be a head smacking moment - Eureka! Of course! But I haven’t had that moment. Why are people modding their BIOS’s?

There’s many reasons. Some people want the latest modules/security updates etc. Others want to run CPUs like ES or Xeons on boards that don’t support them natively. Some people want compatibility for newer, faster storage devices. etc.
