Hi, I have an Asus Z170-AR motherboard and recently picked up a cheap i9-9900k. I have watched videos on people modding their boards. Has anyone done it on this specific board? I would rather go the route of soldering on the motherboard rather than buying a programming tool. Does anyone have the bios file or able to make one for me?
Nope.
You can make your own bios using coffee time and will need a CH341a to flash your chip.
Be careful when you remove your chip that you pull straight up as you don’t want to be in a position where you’re snapping legs.
I’ve just finished modding my board by bridging a couple of points so that I could boot without taping to mask and bridge points. It’s very fine solder work but worth doing on an asus board. It’s similar work to doing a tsop on an OG Xbox.
I’m pretty sure the instructions on the post are wrong as I needed to ground pin 101 not 102x
