I wonder if there is better Generic NVMe driver for Win7, as the one from MS hotfix doesn’t report SMART values.
BTW which driver in FlashBoot Pro 3.3d+ provides?
@roytam1 :
The choice of the best NVMe driver depends not only on the used OS, but on the manufacturer of the NVMe SSD and its Controller as well.
Have you already done a look into the first 2 posts of >this< thread? There I am offering some mod+signed generic NVMe drivers.
My SSD is WD SN750, which has no specified driver in Win7.
and my system is AMD so I think I can’t use Intel RST driver.
@roytam1 :
Other generic NVMe drivers, which will be usable for your system, are from Samsung or OpenFabrics and were modded by me.
The usage of the Intel RST NVMe drivers do not depend on the mainboard’s chipset.
Natively only SSDs with an Intel NVMe Controller are supported, but according to my own tests these drivers work with other NVMe Controllers as well (after having forced the installation by hitting the "Have Disk" button).
My advice: Stick to the MS NVMe driver. If you want to see the S.M.A.R.T. values, I recommend to use a tool like CrystalDiskInfo.
@roytam1 :
Maybe you should update the CrystalDiskInfo tool.
This is what I get with the Portable variant of the CrystalDiskInfo v8.9.0 while running Win10 x64 on the Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD (NVMe Driver: in-box MS one):
@Fernando :
You’re talking about Win10’s driver, it is different from Win7’s stornvme.sys driver.
update CDI to 8.9.0a make no difference here.
I confirm that Windows 7 NVMe driver doesn’t support SMART atributes reporting.
@roytam1
Try the Samsung driver, but be prepared for a recovery if it doesn’t work.
