blue screen after IRST driver update

Hi,

I own a GA-X58-UD5 mb with 6 sata channels (ICH10R) and additional 4 channels with a different chip. system is running with 4x 2TB disks with BIOS set to RAID and W7 Ultimate x64 absolutly stable since at least 2 years. I now wanted to plug in a 4TB disk. But disk was listed with 1.6TB in disk managment (BIOS reported 3.6TB); switch from MBR to GPT did not change the situation. hence I downloaded a new IRST driver 11.0 something (old one was 9.0 something) as exe file from INTEL download page. installation went well (including management UI which i did not use). file copy (50GB) to/from new disk went well. 1 day later the system "suddenly" slows down dramatically. shutdown took 30 minutes. new start again 30 minutes. still slow. next start gave a blue screen with something "unmountable disk". virus test are negative.

might this be related to the new diver? if yes, any ideas how to find the right ones which can handle 4TB disks?

thx much in advance
Chris

Hello Chris,
welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

I don’t know, because there are more than 1 possible reasons for a system instability.
To exclude the freshly installed Intel RST driver, I recommend to let the OS restore the "last good configuration" before you installed the new Intel RAID driver version 11.

If you want support of >2 TB sized drives you must have an Intel RAID ROM v10.5.x.xxxx or higher within the BIOS of your mainboard. Please check the current Intel RAID ROM version and update it, if it should be lower than 10.5.x.xxxx. For details you may look >here<.

Hi Fernando,

thank you very much for your swift reply. Very much appreciated!!

Just that I understand your feedback correctly: You are saying that it is RAID BIOS related (so the RAID ROM on the mainboard) if >2TB disks will be supported, correct? Given that the ROM version is correct, is there any specific IRST driver version needed to support disk > 2TB?

Best regards
Christian

Yes, that is correct.

You can use any Intel RST driver from v10.5 up.

It is BIOS Version 10.6.0.1091. so >2TB should work. Do i need to use one of your modified driver or any from 10.5. up.
Again thank you for your help!!

I recommend to install the Intel RST driver v11.2.0.1006. Since Intel ICH10R Southbridges are supported by the original driver, you can take the WHQL certified version.
