Hi there
I’ve been reading your forum and guides and i thought i had got somewhere when i found reference to a Intel raid controller and tried loading a cab file into the MMtool and failing. Id consider myself a baby when it comes to my knowledge of modifying a bios.
The version that im currently on is 9.5 and i want to have a raid 5 across 4 x 2tb hdds, so I think i need to have 10 or above. Previously ive achieved this with a perc 5i however its incompatible with the pc i just got from work, only registering 8gb memory with the card added.
The latest bios is below, but I don’t understand if its UEFI or non UEFI. Id say non as i couldnt see it anywhere in the technical manual for that computer.

I know that the hp 8200 supports intel rapid storage tech v10 which i think fixes the 2tb limit, im just not sure if it would break my bios if i flash it! Unfortunately, theres no information online about it.
Please point me in the right direction!!!
Hi, after more tinkering, i realise it uses a: Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller
Also, do i need to embed the file into the bios, or can i just run a downloaded update? sorry for the confused message?!?!

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
Please give me a direct link to the BIOS you want to modify. Your link just gives me the general HP Support site.

Fernando
Hi Fernando

Hi Fernando
I’m guessing I can use this rom:
>“Universally TRIM modified” Intel RST(e) RAID ROM v13.2.0.2134 with TRIM in RAID0 support (checksum corrected)< (>MIRROR<)
Note: This modded OROM is designed for DEV_2822/282a Intel RAID Controllers. For details look >here<. Credits go to CPL0 aka Dufus for having developed this special OROM modification.
I believe I have a DEV_2822 raid controller based on the following: DEV_2822 = “Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller”
cheers
Paul
I cannot get the BIOS this way, because I am redirectzed to the HP homepage.
Please archive the BIOS and attach it to your next post.
You may be able to use it, but I do not recommend to put any v13 series Intel RAID ROM into the BIOS.
Please consider, that you have an old Intel chipset and the v13 OROM modules and drivers are designed for the latest Intel chipsets.
I recommend to insert the Intel RAID ROM v12.9.0.2006 and to install the v12.9.4.1000 RAID driver.
No worries, heres the uploaded file.
You have infinitely more wisdom on this matter so v12 sounds good

I uploaded it to my google drive. Hope this works.

Thanks for the new link to the HP BIOS pack, which I was able to downloaded and to extract. By the way: You should never upload clean (not archived/zipped) .EXE files, because any antivirus will give alarm.
The BIOS file is named 7H1_0113.BIN and has a size of 8.388 KB.
Unfortunately I didn’t find a way to open the BIOS file. None of the standard BIOS tools (AMI Aptio UEFI MMTool, non-UEFI MMTool v3.26, CBROM32_198) worked. Not even the Phoenixtool was able to extract the BIOS file.
I am sorry, but I cannot help you.
The included .CAB file is compressed. To get the BIOS file, you have to uncompress it.
Thanks for taking the time to look into it Fernando, I am greatly appreciative. I guess its time to look at different options. Its a shame my perc 5i doesn’t work properly. I guess i’ll need to look a little further into alternatives whilst still using that pc. Maybe a different dedicated RAID card.
I extracted the CAB file using 7zip but was unable to modify it. Its a real shame as its one brilliant pc with plenty of power!
Hi
I ended up using the inbuilt windows raid 5. After getting 15 mb/s transfer speed, I think i want to kill myself!
I found this link to someone who’s modified a HP bios before: http://airodump.net/hewlett-packard-bios-hacking/
They use the following programs:
Phoenix Bios Editor Pro,
EditPad Pro,
SWinFlash.
I’m going to give it another go and hopefully this will work, but before I do, i was wondering have you had any experience in using this software before? If so, was it succesful?
Turns out it doesnt open .bin files… another dead end.
No, I don’t have any experience with this sort of BIOS modding tools.
@neo8223
The BIOS region appears to be an update/patch, rather than a proper BIOS. So you must flash the latest version, then dump it with software or hardware, then replace to your needs. Flashing it back might be harder, since HP likes to sign its BIOS files. Luckily, the sp5xxxx series are only tested for valid signature only on flashing, not on every reboot, if I’m not mistaken.
