I am a PB70DF2 user. I7-10875H, 2070 super mobile are mounted, 230W adapter is provided.
I set IMON Slope to 50 and IMON Offset to 61999 in BIOS. This makes the CPU report the power consumption in half. Nevertheless, Power Limit Throttling inevitably occurs when I play the game.
When I do Cinebench and FireStrike physics test, my GPU goes into idle state, and Power Limit Throttling does not occur on the CPU.
If the temperature of the CPU does not exceed 98 degrees, my CPU can continue to consume more than 120W of power.
But the problem is the game. When I play, the GPU consumes 115W of power, and the CPU has Power Limit Throttling.
The method of maximizing Turbo Boost Short Power Max and Turbo Boost Long Power Max cannot eliminate Power Limit Throttling.
And how to manipulate IMON Slope and IMON Offset also couldn’t get rid of Power Limit Throttling.
The only way I could get rid of the Power Limit Throttling I found was to put the GPU into idle state.
But I am looking for another way. Can someone advise on this?
If you are still here 4 years later, I can finally shed some light into the situation, the Limit you are Facing, is actually a HIDDEN, voltage Limit between the CPU and GPU, I know because this whole time I have been bugged trying to understand how the hell this works LOLLLLLL
so for my laptop 2-2.1V is the maximum for the CPU + GPU combined, there is like a HARDWALL power limit, embedded in this, Also, when you have a battery in your laptop this Voltage is actually Lower, to solve this problem,
with 12th Gen AC Loadline down from 230 to around 160, with the i7-12700H and RTX 3070
The i7-12700H needed AC loadline, but I am sure you can undervolt, the CPU with 10th gen
You need to Limit the volts the CPU+GPU consumes, whilst also undervolting the graphics card as well, that’s the Limit, I have to keep the gpu around 700/750mV to keep the 110/115W Power Limit, on my 3070, it’s just a lack of voltage on the motherboard
1.2-3V on CPU and 700/750mV = like 2.0 to 2.1V
115 and 120 already exceeds the 230W adapter. then there is some consumption by the rest of the hardware. adapters, depending on quality can provide a bit more, but it might not be stable
if still throttled with 300W adapter then you need disable powernow
