with all the security vulnerabiliy issues shown in the last months there have been various iterations of ME firmware.
although newer versions might have improved security levels, now there is an issue related to the coffee/kaby/skylake compatibility.
this means any BIOS version more recent than late 2017 is a definite nono if you want coffee lake on skylake platform.
my question for @plutomaniac and anybody else who could be of some help is as follows:
is there a way to "peek inside" the ME firmware and see if it is possible to "adjust" it and give the CPU compatibility already granted by previous versions?
as a "plan B" option, will it be possible to replace/delete the ME update part from the newer factory BIOS?
question is mostly for AsRock motherboards/BIOS.
thanks
CSME v11.7 (11.7.0.3xxx or higher I think) and onwards disallows the usage of officially unsupported CPU/PCH combinations in hardware. There’s nothing you can do. If you want to use unsupported configurations you’ll also have older vulnerable CSME firmware.
that’s the current status, I know.
Still, a more recent BIOS could be used if the CSME section only of the BIOS could be replaced with an older one.
