Dell/Broadcom ControlVault w/o Fingerprint Sensor: HardwareID vs. Microsoft Update Catalogue

Hello all,

I have here a Dell E6520 Laptop which I upgraded to Win10. I want to get the latest Drivers. In this case, for a device called "Dell ControlVault w/o Fingerprint Sensor". I Always check also Microsoft update catalogue regarding the latest available version. The mentioned device is listed as unknown device in device-manager (no out of box Driver installed by Win10 and no Driver found via automatic Driver update search). Therefore I checked ID in device Manager: USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5800&MI_00\7&66DE6C9&0&0000

If I search for “USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5800&MI_00” in Windows update catalogue, it offers me several different Driver versions:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com…ID_5800%26MI_00

If I download one of them (e.g. the latest one), extract them and try to install via device-manager, Windows states that there is no compatible Driver found. But why?? For me it Looks like a 100% match:

Or is it the small (probably faulty) difference:
Microsoft Update catalogue: usb\vid_0a5c&pid_5800&rev_0101&mi_00
Device Manager \ device instance path: usb\vid_0a5c&pid_5800&&mi_00

A newer driver doesn’t necessarily have to be a best or a suitable one for a given device.
Dell doesn’t list a windows 10 driver, but it does list an 8.1 one:
64-bit https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/…=latitude-e6520
32-bit https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/…?driverId=5DKPT
If you just want to install the driver and not the rest:
unpack the exe and the following msi file with uniextract2, go to device manager and update the device directing the path to the bcmccid.inf file that can be found within UNPACKED_MSI_FILEROOT\Program Files (64)\Broadcom Corporation\Broadcom USH Host Components\bcmccid

P.S. The reason why you couldn’t install the drivers is that these drivers that you have downloaded are x86 ones despite the claim by update catalog that it also supports AMD64 arch. The latest truly-AMD64 driver that update catalag offers is the 6.5MB-sized “Dell - CVAULT - 2/26/2018 12:00:00 AM - 4.9.16.22” driver.
