Hi all. I’ve been overclocking my t5810 using throttle stop and I’ve hit some limits. I’ve went ahead and order a ch341a and a atx bench kit so I can take an old psu and use the 3.3v rail on it with the programmer since I’ve read there is an issue there. I’ve also managed to download amibcp although not sure if it’s what I need. I’ve attached a report from hwinfo64 and a picture of my bios chip. I got into intel ME to find that it is version 9.1.45.3000. so just looking for any and all software I’ll need to pull a bios dump, modify and flash the modded bios using the programmer and my laptop running win10.
Bios chip.

Ok. thought I’d do some playing while waiting for a response / equipment to show up. I’m only looking at everything through my laptop and not actually trying to flash anything to the 5810. I downloaded Dell PFS extract v4.6 and used it to un pack the latest bios version listed on dells site for the t5810 which is 34. I then opened up the unpacked bios bin file in amibcp v5.02.0031. From there I can see all the menus and I guess how I make them visible is changing default to USER. However since I’ve never had an unlocked bios I cannot find where tdp control would be and where PPO current would be. The main issue for all of this is my current is defaulted at 208 amps and I need to increase and TDP hits a wall at 158 watts which is very easily hit over clocking the 1650v3. I’m really just trying to learn my way around amibcp right now as I’ve read that the bios exe files are updates and sometimes don’t contain the full bios…not sure so I’d probably prefer to pull a dump straight off the chip so I know that I have a good file and can save it.
@ frankr2994
Your log is showing power limits are capped to some values but unlimited so the TS can’t rise these limits?
I mean it must be just intuitive to find current limit at AMIBCP isn’t it?
Did you read this?
https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/wha…-xeons.2496647/
@ DaCou
TS will not raise the 208 limit. Using amibcp won’t actually change anything for me. Looking at the text of the efi modules in my bios there are actual default values set. These override any changed settings. For instance sata configuration the set variable is for ahci but the variable for raid is set to (default). So even though it’s calling for ahci it always shows up as raid regardless of what I do in amibcp. Now obviously a setting like that I can change in the bios gui because it’s not hidden. Everything else is hidden though. The only thing I can figure is if someone could put my bios information into a different container because my current bios only has room for 1 tab meaning other menus cannot be un hidden. The other option is I modify the settings in the bios efi files and change the default variables. I however do not know how to modify the efi file. I use ifr extractor to get it into text view and I know you use that for reference to modify the file but what do I open the file up with to modify. If I use a hex editor I can’t find my variables so I’m obviously doing something wrong. Oh and since I forgot about this particular thread since I originally posted I have got my programmer pulled dump files try modding myself with amibcp and had someone over at bios mods mod it as well. Everytime I flash the modded bios it actually changes nothing when I boot into the bios.
My bios dump and the bios I changed with amibcp are in my Google drive. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1…v9zMeRc2lelg4q3
Like I said what I changed in amibcp made no change. Still looking for anyone that can help.
@ frankr2994
If you can flash bios without problem this is good actually.
This 208 limit is Power limit or your current limit?
For locked power limits it is Must to modify 0x610 register bit [31 or 64]
For current limit the register is 0x601 bit[31]
I haven’t problem to modify these for you but yesterday my Windows Sata cable went wrong, so I am out of Windows currently.
At the evening I will try to make IDA Pro working on Linux and will let you know.
Or just download Readwriteverything, find MSR entry, tap User and write number 0x610 and 0x601, tap enter and your registers will be added to list. Than send me values of your registers.
P. S. Your AMIBCP is showing package power limit lock (0x610) is disabled so yes you should have be able to change PL1 and PL2 in TS.
Did you find your current limit and configurable TDP (up, down, nominal) in AMIBCP aswell?
It should be there.
Tdp is listed as level 1 and level 2. In TS the max current level I can set is 208. Setting it at 208 also sets my turbo power limits to max at 208. All I know about the limit I’m hitting is my package current is at 158 watts when it hits. And what I was getting at before is I need a tutorial on setting variables. I really don’t understand how to do it. All I’ve found online is using a program that you load with rufus and boot to and modify a live bios. I want to modify it while I’m working with the bios on a separate machine.
Also I think it has something to do with bios lock or activate overclocking features that I seen using amibcp but I have to put my machine to sleep then wake it up then open TS for anything to work. I’d obviously like it to where I didn’t have to back door it to that extent.
Setting variables is easy, but if your current limit register is locked at 208 there are no way fiddling with variables.
You probably meant RU tool, but it can help you with Bios Lock etc which is not your problem.
You just can’t modify this register in runtime, forget it. It is locked by Bios routine so Bios mod is needed and even then it is not guaranteed to work flawlessly.
You didn’t send me your values for 0x601, so I can’t help you anymore.
I honestly haven’t had time to tear back into it. Wife has me doing spring house duties. I also thought I was out of luck trying to find someone to help me. I’ll get the information over to you as soon as I can and I greatly appreciate the information. Also I wasn’t referring to modifying anything in runtime. I have been working with my bios dump and modifications on a separate computer. I have the Dell t5810 that I’m modding and a latitude laptop that I’m doing all the actual work on to mod the bios for the 5810.
It is OK no problem, btw TS has option ICC max which is simmilar to Current limit and powercut, did you tried it? Powercut option should be working specially on your 4 gen cpus…
Icc max is greyed out. And checking powercut seems to do nothing. To my understanding iccmax was 5th gen and newer. I’m not sure if it would exist if I was using a Xeon v4 but if I had a v4 it would also be a locked chip. I’ve been through everything I could do with TS with the assistance of unclewebb the developer of the program. I still plan to use TS to overclock because I’m fairly certain there is no way for me to add more menus to my bios so my only resort was to modify the variables and hope to give TS more headroom. I’ve still been kicking around if it’s possible to use a bios rom from some high-end gaming x99 board and use it to change my 5810 bios. Way above my skill level though.
