Difference between iaStorA and iaStorb

Hey guys and Fernando,

I use a RAID1 (2xSSDs) in combination with an Intel C600 onboard raid controller. I have to fix some things in repair environment (press F8 before Windows start) but it doesn’t find my Windows 7 (x64) installation.
Probably I have to load the appropriate raid driver → https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23257

My questions:

1) Which driver do I have to use? iaStorA, iaStorB, iaStorF or iaStorS? Is iaStorA the right choice?
2) I couldn’t find anything on internet about iaStorB… what is the difference between iaStorA and iaStorB? It looks like iaStorB refers to DEV-ID 2827 and iaSTorA to 2826. But what’s the difference? Are 2826 & -27 just two different revisions of one RAID controller type?

Thank you for the enlightenment!

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

The name "Intel C600" resp. "Intel C600+" means a complete Chipset Series, but not a special chipset.
Question:
Which special chipset has your mainboard?
Since I suspect, that you have a consumer and not a server mainboard, it will be X79 or X99.

If your mainboard has an Intel X79 or X99 Chipset SATA RAID Controller and your OS is Win7, your system needs the Intel RAID drivers named iaStorA.sys and the iaStorF.sys together with the related INF and CAT files.

No, DEV_2826 and DEV_2827 are different sorts of Intel RSTe SATA RAID Controllers.
The driver named iaStorA.sys is supporting the following RAID Controllers (excerpt from the iaStorA.inf as part of the Intel RSTe drivers v4.1.0.1046):
;server
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_047D1014.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_04811014.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_04851014.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_11B61734.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201019E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201219E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201319E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201519E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201619E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201B19E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201D19E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_201F19E5.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_28228086.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_306E1054.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&SUBSYS_72708086.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset SATA RAID Controller"

The driver named iaStorB.sys supports the following RAID Controllers (excerpt from the iaStorB.inf file content):
;server
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2827&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600+/C220+ series chipset sSATA RAID Controller"

Hello Fernando,

although I use a XEON E5 cpu it should be a desktop mainboard. In device manager it says "C600/X79" (see below).

Using iaStorA.sys/.inf in repair environment worked like a charm (–> my storage controller has device id 2826)! Looks like it was too late in the evening yesterday

Thank you for your support!

I was having problems finding a driver for PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826 and just pointed the update driver to the unzipped folder from Intel at
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23257
And it worked like a charm.

iaStorA.sys and iaStorF.sys are the drivers it ended up installing. Working well now!

@steez
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum and thanks for your report.

It is fine, that you found an Intel RAID driver, which is working fine with your system.
