[Discussion] Firmware for Asmedia USB 3.0/3.1 Controllers

@fccard :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

Since there already exists a 17 pages sized thread full of informations about exactly your topic, I have moved your post into that one.
Please read the most important posts you can find within this thread and ask their author for direct support. I personally cannot help you, because I have never had a problem with my on-board ASmedia USB 3.0/3.1 Controller and don’t have any own experience with the update of its Firmware.

Good luck!

So one last question if anyone can answer it, please.
As I said before, I have installed the firmware 130125_00_02_00 (post #75). And I saw a commentary from @Mazzocato on post #198 that ASM-1042 chips should have firmware 13xx.
My question is, there’s a fw 131025_10_11_03 on post #1 and a fw 131025_10_11_23 from S-D site. So are those compatible with my ASM-1042 chip? If yes, are they newer than the one I have installed at this moment - 130125_00_02_00?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, i`m trying to update the firmware of my Asmedia 1042 on a Asrock Z77 extreme4. I have tried the firmware from post #75 and others, but none of them can find my controller? What am i doing wrong?|addpics|e4a-1-ea74.jpg-invaddpicsinvv,e4a-2-e4c2.jpg-invaddpicsinvv|/addpics|

If you have a ASMedia ASM1042 USB 3.0 chipset, don’t use the station-drivers dot com ASM1042 firmware update. That update is for a ASM1042A chipset. I’ll include the hard-to-find firmware update and the corresponding drivers for the ASM1042. If you have a ASM1042 and use Win8 or Win10, try the ASM1042A driver package from station-drivers dot com. The ASM1042 driver package download here is mainly for Windows 7 x86x64, although they may work for the newer OS’s…

Up?

I have an asmedia usb 3.1 to pcie card (1141) WITH 1.16.47.2 driver.
How it is possible to know what firmware it has?
There exist any tool?

@boombastic:
You should search for a Firmware Update tool at the page of the PCIe card manufacturer.
By the way: Your question has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

I asked it here because from here i updated my driver.
Anyway if it wrong thread you can move it or delete my question.

@boombastik :
Ok, I have moved our last posts into this much better matching thread.
My intention is to avoid an off-topic discussion about ASMedia Firmware updates within the "Storage Drivers" Sub-Forum. Firmware and drivers are totally different things.
Thanks for your understanding.

up. same problem

Does anyone else here get a "severe Virus warning" from Defender when trying to download and use the latest firmware for this controller? I was forced to completely disable Defender just to update my 1142 firmware to the newest one recently released. And it worked without any problems. But after re-enabling Defender it immediately found it and removed the threat stating that it is a "Severe" threat.

Anyone know why a firmware from asmedia would cause such a reaction from Defender?

@ SkOrPn

Could you be specific and post a link to the firmware that you’re getting a virus warning? please?

I send the link to virustotal.com . . .
but the file gives me

running actual .exe gives no warnings on windows 7 for me . so.

Sure, its the same file that Oldskool just posted as well a few posts back. Here is the Google Chrome popup warning I get, and Defender didn’t even want me to mark it as safe. Defender had to be completely disabled to even get the file to stay on my PC. I never see this from other links or files, only this one so far.

Details on file:
File Size: 472.58 Kb
File Version: 150707_30_02_10 (as I said the very last asmedia firmware release for this controller)
File Author: Fdrsoft
Submitted On: 03 Oct 2017

@Shinzok

Yeah I get that too at virustotal. It tells me the site is OK but the file in question is NOT. I hope simply deleting the file was good enough.

Ehm… After seeing what you posted as a picture, i am more inclined to say: Eek ransomware… But that could just be me overreacting… But I’ve seen similar screens and understand the reaction…

Was this on windows 10 , cause in windows 7 , ihad no such screens… It could be that google is over reacting or it could be some actual malware from ads on the website…

I use a pretty hefty ad blocking approach while browsing…

Yeah its a scam attempt. They want you to call them, they claim to be Microsoft and try to get money. This Scam Alert is triggered by this setup.exe, which your virus software will pickup and block safely. If I had an account over at Station Drivers I would report the file, but I don’t. The file actually had no trouble updating the firmware, as far as I can tell.

Hi, maybe there is a new Firmware version 131025_10_11_26 for the Asmedia ASM1042 available.
http://station-drivers.com/index.php?opt…id=3169&lang=fr
I tried to update my Asmedia ASM1042 (non A!) from Version 130125_00_02_00 but there came a message with chip and firmware mismatch before continuing. So I stopped at first.
Does anbody know more or can check it?
