Hi Forum,
I have an issue with my Intel C206 chipset motherbard insofar as the vendor does not expose the SATA hot-plug/hot-swap capability in the BIOS screens (it was there in the initial version, but has since disappeared). So inserting a disk does not generate any kernel events under linux and therefore goes undetected. The functionality is required for RAID swapping of disks.
I have searched the web and landed in this interesting forum. My question is whether updating the RST RAID Rom Module (currently my in-BIOS version is v11.0.0.1339) would help me in overcoming this issue. I do not necessarily require access from the BIOS to enable/disable the function on a per SATA-port basis as I would be happy if hot-plug/hot-swap is always on for all ports.
In case there is a chance that changing the RST RAID Rom module might help, what’s the consensus on which version to use?
If this does not help, are there any other suggestions on how to enable this important functionality. The vendor is not really helpful and currently wants to charge once off engineering fees for a BIOS update …
Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Atom2
@ Atom2:
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
According to my knowledge an update of the Intel RAID ROM module will not solve your problem.
You may try the tool "HotSwap!". You can get it >here<.

Fernando,
thanks for your quick reply. To be honest, I was sort of expecting your answer but was mislead by/was reading too much into the first post >here< where you said:
Obviously these benefits are not as far reaching as I was hoping for …
Unfortunately that does not work out for me as I am running linux - so what I really need is a BIOS solution that either allows me to enable hot-plug/hot-swap by re-enabling the (as I assume) hidden menu entry or have hot-swap/hot-plug enabled as the BIOS default value.
Thanks Atom2
Since I am not a Linux expert, I cannot help you.
