Found this post “ To any of you guys still running your X58 for old time sake and want Nvme I found a way to get it going sort of. Actually a friend on Win-Raid suggested to use the VMWare NVME option rom driver.
All you got to do is add it to your bios rom file by using CBRom bios.rom /pci. With this mod I was able to complete a full post of the system where I could not do so before with an Intel 750 SSD. Only thing is this particular drive does not show in bios so no chance of direct booting but I think if the nvme rom has legacy rom it will show up in bios and you’ll be able to boot. Such as it was with my Plextor M8pey drive. That one showed up in bios but would never complete the posting cycle. Now I am sure it will!”
I have a plextor M8pey and want to know if anyone can explain to me how to add the VMWare NVME option rom driver using CBRom bios.rom /pci to the bios. I have never done bios modding and would love to boot this drive without duet if it’s possible since it does contain a option rom.
Thanks !
@Kickassrocker01 - For systems this old, if you want to boot to NVME, you have to use one of these methods below, unless, NVME has legacy rom internal, such as your 750 may, certain OEM Samsungs, and maybe your plextor you mentioned >>
[Guide] NVMe-boot for systems with legacy BIOS and UEFI board (DUET-REFIND)
[Guide] NVMe-boot without modding your UEFI/BIOS (Clover-EFI bootloader method)
X58/LEGACY BOOTING FROM NVME DRIVES (PIZUSKI METHOD) (MOST QUICK&SIMPLE WAY)
To do CBROM edit, you need to know which CBROM version is compatible with your BIOS (Maybe use 1.55 or lower), and then in XP or DOS (I use XP in VMware) >> CBROMxxx.exe biosname.bin /pci romname.bin
If you need me to do the cbrom edit for you, link me to BIOS and the rom file you want inserted.
I’m really have no clue about any of this. I have a Plextor M8PEY, it’s seen in the achi bios and has a option rom but makes windows crash at the icon when installed in machine. This is the post I was referring too hoping it was possible for this to function natively like the Samsung 950 pro.

Not sure if this is the driver he was talking about.

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!!!
My system is a Evga x58 sli3 with a Xeon x-5660 and no raid running in achi mode if that helps at all.
So I did find this which they say is a modified version of the VMware nvme rom.
[Experimental] NVMe Option ROM (2)
You think it’s worth a try? I don’t know where to download the original or one that the evga link was talking about.
