Faulty BIOS suspected, unable to reflash

Hello to all !

Got stuck with this stubborn DELL Latitude E6420 laptop. The issue is that instead of restarting it just shuts down (even though Windows shows the Restart and spins the bubbles). The BIOS is newest (A25) and I’d like to go for downgrade as I strongly suspect its BIOS issue. The restart is not working from Windows, DOS, Windows PE. Even when booted DOS and used CTRL+ALT+DEL the PC just shuts down instead of restart, thus I suspect its not the driver or other software issue. Restarting from the BIOS itself - works, it restarts after several seconds. The bad thing is that to update/downgrade a BIOS PC must restart after running in Windows, but it never does, so the BIOS downgrade never starts. Tried to run the updater from DOS, but for some reason it just throws some random DOS characters, smiley faces and stuff like that and beeps (characters are like opening exe file with notepad, you know, not usual letters). As the BIOS in fact is not a BIOS, but rather EFI system, I gets a bit complicated for me. Checked thee schematics, there are W25Q64BVSSIG and W25Q16BVSSIG IC’s, from 25, 64 and 16 I’m guessing, its 64 Mb and 16 Mb SPI flash memory chips (25 series, back in those days Willem was able to program them, but it took loooong time to write). First maybe we’d go the easy way - if you would suggest any option to downgrade the BIOS. If no options - then I will need help extracting BIOS from exe file (tried, no extract option embedded), then locating the correct IC to write the needed part of BIOS into it.

Hi friend , you need the SPI Programmer and Pomona climp to rewrite back the firmware into the Eeprom , so buy it and make a firmware dump ,
then upload it here and we will try to rebuild it for you.
Let me know
