[Guide] CoffeeLake CPUs on Skylake and KabyLake mainboards

I edit the coffelake 8core only bios for M8H(maximus viii hero)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1d-m4-a…FG2kNoY1JUXyR8o
here is the link of the edited-bios
i don’t know it works
i’m thinking of buying 8700k or 9700k
but i don’t know i can run 9700k by M8H
please test it instead of me
thanks
i think you may use Ch341A
isolation and short(2pin/2pin) are needed

General question to those of you who have successfully slotted a 6core 8xxx or 9xxx series CPU into your Z170 board. Did you clean-install right off the bat or see if your current install did ok? I’m having some weird BSOD issues that I think might be involved with a dirty windows install, but I just wanted to see what everyone else’s experience was. I was planning on re-installing windows anyway, but just wanted to see if I should prioritize it over other stuff.

I have a Win 7 installation on a hdd and using it no matter which mainboard is on the testbench. boots fine all kind of 80, 90, 100, 200 and 300 series mainboards right into windows. I only have a reboot issue with z390 mainboards. First boot of every board I get asked to install a driver here and there, but after switching the boards more often everything works :wink: So no, there is no need to reinstall windows. But if you feel better, just do it.

@chaehwasu Looks like your bios wouldn’t work with internal graphics, more than 8+ threads and any 8th Gen CPUs.

Thanks for your feedback. Sounds like the issues are originating from my mobo/bios/cpu interaction. I will keep tweaking, probably play with the voltages (my current theory is that the z170 motherboard doesn’t know the best way to supply power to the 6c/6t cpu in every case at all times).

@svarmod
i will use pcie graphics card and 9700k
can i use this bios?
if i can’t use it, can you edit the bios for me?

@Lost_N_BIOS
hi,again
i will use 9700k with maximus viii hero
i will use gtx 1060. so, i need pcie patch too.
i don’t need other cpu microcode except of 9700k’s
but , i don’t have ability to mod bios
i want to download M8H coffelake bios at
https://www.chiphell.com/forum.php?mod=v…ead&tid=1902144
here, but i can’t download at baidu
can you make the M8H 9700k pcie compatible bios

i mod M8H bios with coffeetime 0.6
i will use M8H with 9700k
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1V7DJzx…gyd33By_Hh-1_X0
here is the bios link
i know i need to isolate/and short pins
here is the image link
http://mblogthumb2.phinf.naver.net/MjAxO…3.png?type=w800

this bios is compatible with 9700k(with pcie graphics card)and overclock it?
and the way to short/isolation pins are right?
please tell me the answer

@chaehwasu Seems to all necessary mods are inside. You need to transfer MAC-address and other personal data using FD44Editor to complete mod. And I would recommend make pinwork as CoffeeTime suggested, not 2 pins only.

@svarmod
i will use Ch341a to apply the bios
do i need to transfer mac-address and change personal data?

I’m having trouble getting BIOS overclock settings to stick in Windows 10–there I’m limited to all-core turbo frequency of 4.3GHz. I do seem to be able to get higher single core boosts though. Are there any BIOS workarounds? Or do I have to use Intel XTU for the overclock to persist in Windows? Running on an Asrock Z170 gaming itx/ac, 9600K, Win10x64 1809.

Edit: After searching back through this thread, I think it may be an issue with CpuMpPei not being patched. Would that make sense with my OC issues?

Edit2: I got all core sync working with CoffeeTime, thanks!

@chaehwasu If you need it. Make dump of origin bios for data restore possibility, at the least.

@Lost_N_BIOS actually we use same method from s.napi.
@Bluesmoke better use 370 itx bios region.

@revlaay - so both CPUmpPEI modules get edited when needed?

Hi, i have asus z170 maximus hero. I wonder is anyone here tried and worked with coffee lake cpu s with this board? I did search a bit but could not find anything and afraid of doing the mod.

@airjordantr - you can use AIO tool, so mod not so worrisome for you
[TOOL] Easy automated Mod tool for Coffee Lake bios

What is your exact CPU? See this, and read posts down the page too

@Lost_N_BIOS yes

i have 8700k and planning to buy 9900k but not a close time. So 8700k is my main cpu. Do i have to do pencil mod to cpu? I just red some problems about asus board , i also red the guides but just want to be sure to hear that someone use this board and %100 functional.

@Lost_N_BIOS

Hello everyone. I am using Z270 supercarrier motherboard. I tried to make a bios to run cpu i7 8700k but failed.
i have flash bios successfully. But when I press the power button the motherboard lights up about 1 millisecond and then turns off.
