Yes, and get the "service mode jumper is set" message at boot.
is this a 7060 Micro ?
Big thank you to @Sleinous and @DeathBringer , I tested my 7060 SFF with i7-9700F yesterday and worked right away.
I can confirm that this mod is not working on a Dell 3060 SFF. After aplying the microcode patch, the computer doesn’t start anymore (neither with its i5-8500 default microprocessor nor with a new i7-9700)
@ferlanero That was to be expected, this is not for 3060 nor 5060 series, only 7060. BIOS is different between the 3. You will likely need to use Dell BISO recovery now to unbrick or a hardware programmer eg CH341A.
Ok, I understand. Will be any hopes to get i7-9700 working on a Dell 3060? I have several 3060 units so I could help in case of needing
It should definitely be possible, we will need to start by dumping the existing (most up to date) BIOS from one of your Dell 3060 units. Is this an i7 9700T or 9700 ? It was my understanding that 3060 units don’t have 65w TDP variants of the motherboard, only 5060/7060 do
Yes, I have the most up-to-date BIOS version installed. It’s an i7-9700 (By default Dell 3060 SFF units come with i5-8500 -65W)
Ah yes sorry forgot this was SFF
thanks already sorted that part out
will bookmark if I get another refurbed board
Dell released a BIOS update for the Optiplex 7060 but I’m assuming that updating to the new BIOS will erase the microcode for the 9th generation. And I’m also assuming that there is a slim to no chance that they added the microcode for the 9th generation processors. Any thoughts?
I have tried to use QKYN ES ( it is like i7-7700 but 3,0 mhz) cpuid 506E8 on Vostro 3668 instead of G4560. Bios has a string with microcode for 506E8 revision 34 ( I have extracted - cpu506E8_plat22_ver00000034_2016-07-10_PRD_57D53E7A.bin), but MB does not start, just only amber light of power LED (Fans of case and CPU are in the biggest rotation) . Does it means that bios of Vostro 3668 is not support ES CPU? Is there any chance to use QKYN ES with Vostro 3668?
@DeathBringer
You meant "download, patch, and update it again," right? I’m new here and I’m wondering what should be a good practice. Do you always keep an officially supported CPU in case a new BIOS overwrites the modded BIOS?
Would a i7-9700 non K edition work in a 7060 micro (65W board) with this mod?
@DeathBringer Looks like I have just bricked my 7060 micro. I followed the steps - fptw64 with ucode_2020_04.bin. Everything went smoothly but when I restarted my micro - it is not booting up. Power led has 2 short, pause, followed by 3 short - all amber light.
Any idea how to recover it?
