How to find out if 1.5 (consumer) or 5MB (Corporate) ME edition? (Dell E6520)

Hello plutomaniac,

Sorry for bothering again: I have an Dell E6520 where I want to find out which ME “Edition” was implemented by Dell engineers. If I had to guess it’s the “corporate edition”. But firmware flashing and ‘guessing’ is a bad combination.

What I have already testet:

1) ME Analyzer

I tried 3 BIOS update files from Dell download page (incl. latest v. A21). At least 2 of them have documented Intel ME firmware updates included:

"Updated Intel ME Firmware to 7.1.20.1119"
Aktualisierung der Intel ME Firmware gemäß der Sicherheitsempfehlung CVE-2017-5689 / INTEL-SA-00075.

However ME Analyzer cannot analyze them:

2) MEInfo

I couldn’t find any hint for 1.5 respectively 5MB size…:

Can you or someone else help me finding out which version I have?

EDIT by Fernando: Inserted the codes into "spoilers" (to save space)

“FW Version: 7.1.91.3272” which is very close to the latest 7.x corporate version (7.1.92.3273), no 7.x.x.3xxx version in consumer firmware and “Intel(R) Active Management Technology - PRESENT/ENABLED” strongly suggest that its a corporate (5MB) firmware.

You can extract Dell bios files with Dell Image Extract >link< Now MEA can read the file and confirms ‘5MB’

a20.jpg

chipset QM87… pretty much corporate.

QM67? (I guess all 8-series chipset have at least ME 9.x)

yep QM67, it was a typo sorry

@lfb6 : Although I followed the manual you linked (installed Python, copied hexeditor….), I didn’t get the tool working (as you did). However. Thanks for analyzing the BIOS file for me

The small firmware change (regarding versioning step) helped a lot: INTEL-SA-00086 is fixed now!

Thanks again!
