Hello All,
I hope someone can help me here, my story is related to my HP laptop that I bought off ebay still in warranty. One night I was playing with all the hp applications that you can install from Support page and i ended up installing hp wolf security technology along with all other utilities and prompt me for reboot but I decided todo in morning and went to bed. Following morning when I open my laptop lid it has reboot itself and got prompt for BIOS password which was very surprising as there was no password setup. after 3 attempts I panicked and I ended open the laptop backcover in thought of that i will be able to clear the password by removing the battery and rtc battery. When i plugged the battery back in and power on the laptop it got even worst , my laptop display a msg on the screen stating that due to security reason I have to enter the BIOS admin password because of laptop back cover being removed and the policy i had implemented previosly was to promopt for admin password. My laptop was not giving me any option to bypass this msg, I rebooted , drained the battery, remove battery, no matter what i did it still prompt me for admin password to continue, i could not even pass this msg while before it would load the windows.
Long stor short, i spoke with hp support as my laptop was still in warranty . they have advised me that they have to change the motherboard as this is the only option they have and it will cost me alot.
A week after i went to Pakistan and I took the laptop with me and i took the laptop to BIOS repair shop to see if they can remove that password for me. the repair shop removed the BIOS chip and make a copy and then used the hex editor to remove that password field and then tried different version of BIOS to Bypass that msg and they were successfull in doing that.
When I got my laptop back, laptop was all fine but there was an issue with fingerprint reader which got fixed by reseting the fingerprint from BIOS, there was also a problem with sound drivers as it was not getting installed no matter what i did, i also used to get INTEL MANAGMENT FIRMWARE UPDATE ERROR everytime I used the bios update to latest version. one day i decided to run the bios upgrade by running this command from comman d prompt to force everything “HPBIOS64UPDREC.exe -s -f Rom file”.
When I rebooted the laptop my laptop was not powering back on all i was getting was lights on keyboard and fan will spin so fast but no output on screen.
I only had 2 days left in Pakistan and i decided to take the laptop back to that guy and he was manage to bring it back to live and it was all working ok no error msgs, i was able to update the bios , all my drivers are working but when i came back to UK i come across an issue that my fingerprint was not working, I checked device manager and there was no sign on fingerprint reader in Biometric security areaa, went in BIOS and I also could not see any option for fingerprint in BIOS builtin device as well . further more that option i used to see in BIOS to Reset FINGERPRINT After Reboot was also gone.
My Question is IS there a different types of BIOS version that has this feature enabled?
if yes from where i will be able to get this BIOS ROM ?
is it possible to reflash with fingerprint feature enabled again in BIOS?
Is there a script that i can run which will enable this feature in BIOS or m i looking for whole rom file that has to be done to both BIOS chips in my laptop?
Kind Regards
