HP Pro 3120 new CPU is not recognized (beeping).

Hello.

I upgraded my cpu but when I boot up the computer it gives me 1 short + 1 long beep repeating on a black screen. At first I thought this was an hardware issue - but after some research and asking around on forums it seems to be an BIOS-issue.

Apparently my mobo and chipset can handle the new cpu, but the BIOS are so poorly constructed that it won’t allow it.

I was hoping some BIOS-genious knew a workaround… Here are all the necessary info (I hope):

My computer: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/435619/…l?page=2#manual & http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04288430.pdf

CPU upgrade: from E5500, 2-MB cache, 2.80 GHz to Q8400, 4-MB cache, 2.66 GHz

Beep code: Memory issue.

Memory: 8gb (1x 4gb + 2x 2gb) PC3-10600 DDR3

wmic baseboard get: Manufacturer: Pegatron Corporation / Product: 2A94 / Version: 1.03

BIOS version: American Megatrends Inc. 6.09, 2012-01-16

SMBIOS version: 2.5

OS: Windows 7, 64-bit.

Additional: New thermal paste between changes and all that. The fan doesn’t seem to run any faster than usual when I try to boot with the new processor. And when I boot up with the old cpu back everything runs fine.

Hopefully someone can help, thanks in advance.

SOLUTION: So apparently this was a memory issue - the new cpu booted with one of my sticks (http://www.electrobyt.com/index.php?main…29#.VpD5BFLlnyF) and that one only. No other combinations or singles of my sticks worked. I even tried different dimm-slots for everything.

But now comes the part where I need to find new memory… And I’m so confused on what type I should buy because the one stick that works has the same specs as one that doesn’t work.

How come the new CPU only works with: http://www.electrobyt.com/index.php?main…29#.VpEPHFLlnyH

And not with: http://www.electrobyt.com/index.php?main…22#.VpEOclLlnyE

The other CPU were fine with both, and a third one that differs from both the Hynix and Kingston; an A-Data DDR3 4GB 1333MHzDDR3-1333, PC3-10666. It worked (and loaded all 3 sticks á 8gb total) with all combined.
