HP Z200 Workstation (786H3) continuously powers down at 30 minutes.

I have a Z200 Workstation (786H3)

So of course I find all this out after I upgraded the firmware on my Workstation and now I have a 30 minute brick on my hands.

Had just upgraded the BIOS to v01.22 (SP75207)
The ME Firmware was at 6.0.3.1195 prior to this upgrade. It didn’t complain that my ME firmware was out of date.

I also (after the fact) tried upgrading to ME Firmware 6.0.40.1212 (SP50543) using the DOS version however by this point I was getting the error “could not connect to ME Driver”.

Reading other threads (like Z200 switches off after 30 minutes - unable to Ctrl-P or flash ME firmware (2)) shows me that I need to somehow over-write the BIOS/ME Firmware to get things working again. I saw an upload of the 7H3_0122.bin file (not .cab like you’d normally use with the HP tools for BIOS upgrade) but not sure how to actually flash that into the BIOS chip. Before I tried anything, wanted to check here as I’m afraid if I do it wrong, I’ll brick the motherboard forever.

Clues or help appreciated.

Marcos…

So at this point, I cannot upgrade the ME firmware, the machine reboots every 30 minutes from power-up, and I cannot connect to the ME system to do anything about it.

Did you ever find a copy of the ME Firmware - 6.0.3.1195 ?

I am in the same boat; but I am working with the Z200 SFF (786H4), so my BIOS only goes up to 1.19 although ME is separate and does not matter. Just noting for posterity’s sake.

I was thinking the same thing about maybe trying to flash the old version of ME back; because upgrading the ME “borks” the machine if not done exactly a certain way. Also, mine (and others) does not reboot. It just shuts down after 30 minutes; which seems to be some sort of Watchdog default timer.

Either way, this seems to be a common issue and just adding a comment and just commenting in case you get somewhere…

Hi guys! I have a Z200 Workstation (786H3) with the same problem. Did either of you get the issue resloved? If so, what excatly step by step did you have to do to resolve the issue? btw i’m using Windows 10. Thanks in advance.

Btw my Sys Info in the BIOS says ME Firmware is at 6.0.3.1195 so I don’t know how the ME Firmware broke it if it was never actually updated to ME Firmware 6.0.40.1212.
