Hello everyone, I am new here and I have tried reading “how-to” posts all night. I have 2 main questions.
A. I have the P9X79 Deluxe MB with a 1TB Samsung 850 SSD in AHCI mode and I want to know what driver or drivers I should use. (Intel RST(e) v13.1.0.1058 WHQL)?? Currently I haven’t installed ANY drivers…just rebuilt it.
B. Is it possible to have 2 SSD in RAID 0 with Trim support on this particular board?
Any help would be great! For now, just knowing what driver I should be using for my Single SSD will do but IF RAID 0 is possible then that will be my next move. Thanks for anyone taking the time to read and respond.
@Tripp17 :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
Yes, I would install the Intel RST(e) AHCI driver v13.1.0.1058 WHQL.
Yes, that will be possible.

Dieter (alias Fernando)
Well, I do thank you sir for your quick reply! I just don’t understand how to do it. I tried hitting Ctrl I on post and my screen was red with options I had no idea what to do with. Keep in mind that a few years ago I had Raid 0 arrays so im not a complete stranger to all this. I guess I want to know do I download the package and install v13.1.0.1058 WHQL? I wish I could steal you for 10 min, have u explain what I need and then zoom you back to Germany lol… Ive seen you say just install the drivers, how to I go about installing v13.1.0.1058 WHQL? Thank-you so much for your time on this matter!
This is what I recommend to do:
- Download and unzip the desired “pure” Intel AHCI driver (the 32/64bit choice depends on the 32/64bit architecture of your OS).
- Only required, if you have currently installed any Intel RST Software:
Uninstall it from within the Control Panel > “Programs” > “Uninstall” feature. After having done it, reboot your system. - Manual installation/update of the Intel AHCI driver:
- Run the Device Manager, expand the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” section and search for the Intel SATA AHCI Controller (it may be named “Standard SATA AHCI Controiller” or similar), where your System Drive is connected. If there are more than 1 AHCI Controller listed and you are unsure, which of them is the correct one, right click onto the related Controller(s) and choose the options “Properties” > “Details” > “Property” > “HardwareIDs”.
The HardwareIDs of the desired Intel SATA AHCI Controller should look similar to this picture:
Tips: The VendorID of Intel is VEN_8086, the DeviceID (DEV_XXXX) varies and identifies the special on-board SATA Controller model, the last line containing the annex “CC_0106” verifies, that the related Controller is running in AHCI mode (IDE mode would be: CC_0101, RAID mode: CC_0104). - Right click onto the listed AHCI Controller, whose driver you want to change/update and choose the options “Update Driver Software…” > “Browse my computer for driver software” > “Let me pick from a list…”.
- Hit the “Have Disk” button and navigate to the folder, where you have stored the unzipped driver you want to install, hit onto the file named iaAHCIC.inf and choose from the list the correct Intel SATA AHCI Controller of your current system.
- Install the driver and reboot.
Now your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller should use the desired Intel AHCI driver. You can check it by looking into the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” section of the Device Manager.
Good luck!
Thank you for your time, it has worked and it has helped! I would like to know alittle more about having 2 SSD in RAID 0! I have ALWAYS wanted this but was afraid that there wouldn’t be TRIM support and then it wouldn’t be worth it. I can get a second Samsung 1TB SSD and match it with the one I have and I would have all the space in the world plus the added speed to go with it. If you can point me in the right direction I will read everything I can. I have read well over 40 pages of different topics concerning this here on this site. I wish there was a HOW TO feature. Just knowing it can be done is exciting and I want to learn how to do it before I spend 300+ on another Samsung SSD 1TB. You really are amazing, you’re knowledge is unsurpassed sir!!
