Intel Chipset Device "Drivers" (= INF files)

To be sure, you have to compare the content of the related information file (*.inf). I am pretty sure, that there is no difference except the date.
By the way: The Intel Chipset Device Software Sets do not contain any real driver.

Well, it’s not only the date at least on this one (annexed). Perhaps a z170 version made later ?

Thanks for having attached both INF files.
Yes, both differ not only regarding the date, but regarding the supported Operating Systems and the supported devices as well.
These are the differences I found:

  1. supported Operating Systems:
    • a) file dated 10/28/2015: NT, NT.6.1, NT.6.3.1, NTamd64, NTamd64.6.1 and NTamd64.6.3.1
    • b) file dated 11/29/2015: NT and NTamd64
  2. supported devices:
    • a) file dated 10/28/2015: The Devices "Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family Thermal subsystem - A131" and "Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family Integrated Sensor Hub - A135" are additionally supported
    • b) file dated 11/29/2015: The Devices "Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family Thermal subsystem - A131" and "Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family Integrated Sensor Hub - A135" are not supported by this INF file.

Yes, and I don’t have A135 in device manager. Different version of Z170 ??

The Intel 100-Series Chipset systems have a big variety of different devices.

Intel Chipset Device Software v10.1.1.14 WHQL

Release Notes v10.1.1.14

Note: Regarding the 1970 date that some inf files have, this is Intel’s statement. Obviously high time they did that.

@ all:
Update of the Start post
Changelog:

  • new: Intel Chipset Device Software v10.1.1.14 WHQL dated 01/29/2016
  • new: Intel Chipset Device INF files v10.1.1.14 WHQL dated 01/26/2016 - already extracted

Note: The “Intel(R) Chipset Device Software v10.1.1.14” has been officially released by Intel. The related Release Notes can be found >here<.

@plutomaniac :
Thank you very much for having posted the related links before I was able to do it myself.

@Fernando
On my X99 platform if you try to install v10.1.1.14 a warning message says that a ‘more recent’ version is already installed.
The message is confusing because my current version is v10.1.2.10 WHQL which is the best appropriate to X99 but dated as you said in Post#1 08/23/2015.
The version number seems a better criteria than the date in my X99 case…

For X99 you need 10.1.2.xx branch and not 10.1.1.xx. Unless you have yellow exclamation marks at Device Manager there is absolutely no point in updating the INF utility either way.

Changelog:

  • new: Intel Chipset Device Software v10.1.2.19 WHQL dated 01/27/2016
  • new: Intel Chipset Device INF files v10.1.2.19 WHQL mostly dated 12/16/2015 - already extracted

Note: It seems, that these Intel Chipset Device INF files are primarily designed for Intel C600/C600+ systems having an Intel CPU Socket 2011 resp. 2011-3 (X79 and X99). The related ReleaseNotes are within the Intel Chipset Device Software Set.
Thanks to Station-Drivers for having posted the version number. I found the source package at the ASUS Support pages.

Hi !

I want to have proper chipset drivers for my 2 computers, since i’m little confused with all those versions

First computer configuration :
Intel 6 series/C200 series (sandy bridge 2nd generation)
and AHCI drivers :
12.9.4.1000 (07.04.2014)

Second computer configuration :
Intel 100 series/C230 series (skylake)
and AHCi drivers :
14.8.5.1047 (17.02.2016)

I have for both computers installed v10.1.1.18 WHQL and on both computers works fine.
Should i leave that or maybe this v10.1.1.18 WHQL drivers aren’t good for sandy bridge ?

Thanks for any kind of information ,
Best,
Matej

  1. The packages do not contain any driver, but just text files with the extension *.inf.
    2. As you can read within the start post of this thread, the "Intel Chipset Device Software" v10.1.1.8 and the related INF files do support all Intel Chipsets from 6-Series up (except X79, X99 and Xeon CPU systems).
Consequence: You can install these INF files onto your 6-Series and 100-Series Chipset computer.

Thank you very much for your answer !

  • new: Intel Chipset Device INF files v10.1.1.32 WHQL dated 06/17/2016 (already extracted for manual installation)

Note:
These INF files are a few hours newer than the previously offered v10.1.1.5002 ones, but their content is absolutely identical (except the version number). Intel obviously decided to stick with the previously used consecutive version numbering.

Dieter (alias Fernando)

INF files v10.1.1.5002 are dated 06/17/2016, time digital signature - 13:22
INF files v10.1.1.32 are dated 06/17/2016, time digital signature - 13:11

@p82 :
The exact compilation times of the various INF files are different. Nearly all v10.1.1.32 files have been compiled later than the v10.1.1.5002 ones.
