That would be much appreciated by the Forum visitors. Please write your guide directly into >this< Sub-Forum and give the thread a meaningful title like "[Guide] How to manually update the Intel CPU Microcode".
You should put all these files into 1 single *.ZIP or *.RAR archive and attach it to your guide.
Hi Fernando, I am looking to add microcode for the Intel Xeon W3680 into the latest bios for two Gigabyte motherboards GA-EX58-UD5, and GA-EX58-UD4P. Both have support for the W3690, but not the W3680 so I can replace if there isn’t space to add. Is there an appropriate tool and source for the appropriate microcode files somewhere in your forum? If I am in the wrong place, can you give me a pointer?
@David359 : Since I am not an expert regarding how to update/customize the CPU microcode, I cannot really help you. Why don’t you try it by using the UBU tool (after having added the required AMI Aptio V MMTool)?
@David359 & @Fernando You’ve got no UEFI-BIOS, so there no chance to use UBU tool.
Both are Award Dual-BIOS. There is no special tool to do the changes. I do it with HxD. When you look @ Intel website of W3680, then you’ll find the actual Linux CPU MC Database. Then you need program ‘microdecode.exe microcode.dat’ to decompress the MCs from linux-db.
After c’n’p the microcodes you’ll have to create the new checksum for the whole BIOS-file with CBROM. If you want to update some option-ROMs, then do it with CBROM like in this tutorial.
I can do it for you, if you don’t wanna find out, how-to-do. If I should do so, give me please the BIOSes. I’ve done it succesfully with two BIOS of S.775 Gigabyte mainboard in the last week. I’m owning a Xeon E5450 S.771 and putted it with a special adapter in the S.775 board.
