Hi.
Do I need to install 9.4.x Intel chipset AllOS driver for intel mobile chipset (lenovo g500 notebook), as I see default drivers (Windows) installed for it, intel LPC host controller, PCI Express bridge etc. seems all except SATA AHCI controller with have default SATA driver.
Intel chipset driver 9.4.0.1027 which have release date 2013 and windows 8.1 latest build (2014 year) - Is default driver better and newer? Another reason why I asking because drivers only installing with flag /OVERALL or installing only some part of it, third reason I need to install driver before I updating Windows 8.1 (Windows updates) if I install after I update windows I got error linked with OSversion lib. and installer closing.
I installed drivers with overall flag on win 8.1 (build 2014 november) without updates because that chipset not detected at all (all standard drivers) - and seems all fine and stable, Do I need it on intel hm76 which detected by windows somehow?
I want to clarify that situatuation. Sorry for my bad English. Thanks

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
No.
Regarding the importance and installation of the so-named Intel Chipset "Drivers" (the related "Intel Chipset Device Software" Sets delivered by Intel don’t contain any real driver) I recommend to read the "Preliminary Notes" within the start post of >this< thread.
By the way: All the specific Intel chipset device related INF files, which you automaticly got installed by the Windows OS Setup or by Windows Update, are built by Intel and not by Microsoft.
The only real MS driver, which has been automaticly installed by the Win8.1 Setup and should be replaced by an Intel one for getting a bbetter performance, is the generic AHCI driver named MSAHCI.SYS or STORAHCI.SYS. The choice of the best matching Intel RST AHCI driver depends on the chipset of your Intel chipset. Since your Lenovo G500 laptop has a "Mobile Intel HM76 Express" chipset, I recommend to install the Intel RST(e) AHCI driver v12.9.4.1000 WHQL.

Thanks. It must be my old-fashioned mind (since VIA chipset drivers ) It’s just for correct naming hardware and for old OS’, ‘dummy’ driver. But I remember integrating procedure of your driver for ICH9R for WinXP. Is AHCI driver from Intel Software ‘any real’? Can it impact on perfomance/stability ?
Do I loose something with installed Intel Chipset software on Intel h61 on my desktop with Win 8.1 and with forced /overall flag? or better to do OS reinstall?
I read many posts on forums what RST driver change APM/AAM/Power Managment policy of HDD’s what cause instability/BSOD’s/HDD shorten lifetime, and actually never installing it, this is necessary?
Thanks for your reply.
All devices named "Controller" need a real driver (= *.SYS file) and the choice of the "best" driver has an impact on the performance or/and stability of the system.
Not really, you have just installed a lot of bloatware (installer and a lot of unusable INF and CAT files), but this doesn’t really harm your system.
Your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller needs a real AHCI driver, but it is your decision, whether you want to use the generic in-box AHCI driver built by Microsoft or the Intel AHCI driver, which has been developed by Intel and designed especially for the Controller model of your system.
