Intel ROM and RST driver recommendation for a Gigabyte P55 ?

So I’ve got a couple of 3TB drives that I want to RAID-1, and I’ve read through the various guides and success lists. I guess depending on when the post was written, the recommendations vary a bit.

Given that we’re at v13, which is far past the point of being recommended for the 5-series, do you, Fernando, or anyone else with experience in this, have recommended ROM/driver combos for a 5-series? And how is it in terms of reliability/read/write speed?

many of the successful builds were done with 12.7.0.1936, but I saw recommendations for the 11 series. Is it usually best to go with the highest developed version in a certain series?

I’m about to bite the bullet on a bios mod for the 3TB drives, and it’s a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P running F10. obviously old enough not to have an efi bios. I’ll likely try to fit in JMB36x v1.0.7.28 and realtek v2.59 at the same time.

Yes, for your P55 RAID system I would recommend either the Intel RST driver/ROM combo v11.2.0.1006/11.2.0.1527 or the RST(e) driver/ROM combo v12.8.11.1000/v12.7.0.1936.
At least you have to try it out yourself. There is no "best" driver/ROM combination for all P55 chipset systems.

Well, so far so good.

I ended up using Intel RST(e) ROM 11.6.0.1702 / Driver 11.7.4.1001. It recognized the pair of 3TB drives, in the config utility and in windows, though I did have a minor annoyance. I was using 12.9 and installing 11.7 didn’t replace it, it made 2 instances. Got rid of them both and reinstalled. Now seems ok.

I replaced the JMB ROM as well. It’s now v1.0.7.28. I haven’t played with that yet, as the two disks I have there are not RAID yet.

I updated the realtek ROM to 2.59 also, and wasn’t going well, as I forgot your advice to modify it with a hex editor to the specific device id last two digits. I was getting two of them in CBROM, until I changed the hex, and then it worked fine. It changed the order of the ROMs, but doesn’t seem to have had any ill effect. I did them in order so that they just shifted down. I used CBROM 155 as a precaution.

File should be attached if anyone with this board is in the same boat.

BTW - seeing as no one else from any of the other bios modding forums took much notice of my posts, I gotta say your response was very much appreciated. Also, the guides and links on the forum are top notch. Definitely saved me some grief.
