Hi guys,
Great resource here, please do let me know if this has been addressed before many times, or if i’m posting in the wrong place.
I’ve got a MSI GT60 2oc 3k laptop with motherboard:
Manufacturer Micro-Star International Co. Ltd.
Model MS-16F4 (SOCKET 0)
Version REV:0.C
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model Haswell
Chipset Revision 06
Southbridge Vendor Intel
Southbridge Model HM87
I’m running an mSATA RAID0 as a media (video editing) drive, with a Samsung 840 EVO 120gb as OS drive.
I’ve had many issues with Raid drivers in windows 7 x64 (unstable, slow, IRST errors) before and recently reinstalled Windows and rebuilt Raid (not sure if corruption was driver related or virus, or otherwise).
NOW the reinstalled RAID ROM is: v12.7.0.1936
With Drivers v12.8.0.1016 WHQL
As recommended by Fernando here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/show…ion-(BIOS-vs-OS)
I installed the driver manually (device manager/IDE ATA/ATAPI/browse drivers), and have confirmed it’s running the correct Intel drivers in DriverView - see attached. Maybe this was a mistake, but after installing manually and confirming I then installed the IRST application - same version (yet showed the same drivers after install).
YET I still have the same issue as before (although Raid does now seems to be more stable and faster than before reinstall) - the IRST app reports ‘your system is reporting one or more events, and data may be at risk’ and RAID does NOT show up in IRST - although it runs fine in Windows.
My previous research showed that RAID was running with Windows RAID drivers, and not the Intel drivers - hence the IRST errors/misconfiguration. But now it’s confirmed as running with Intel drivers - so I’m confused.
Could it still be running with MS drivers even though the Intel drivers are installed?
Any way to confirm this? Any fix for this?
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Morgan
@Morgs_B :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
According to >this< MSI site your laptop has only 2 SATA ports. How did you manage to get 3 storage drive disks (2 mSATA disks + 1 SSD) connected and running?
This was a recommendation I gave in August 2013 to an Intel P67 user. This was and is not valid for your Intel 8-Series Chipset system. Furthermore in 2013 there were no Intel RAID drivers of the v13 and v14 series available.
Microsoft has never offered any own RAID drivers, which do support Intel RAID systems. The Win7 in-box RAID driver named iaStorV.sys is an Intel one.
I do not recommend to “downgrade” from an Intel RST(e) RAID driver named iaStorA.sys from v11.5x.xxxx up (which uses an additional SCSI filter driver) to any “conventional” Intel RAID driver (without SCSI Filter driver) like the old Win7 in-box Intel MSM driver v8.x.x.xxxx series. You may get a BSOD while rebooting.
This is what I recommend to do (provided, that your laptop really should support your current storage disk drives configuration):
1. Backup your important data, which are within your RAID0 array.
2. Uninstall the currently running Intel RST Software from within the Control Panel (“Add/Remove Programs”).
3. Reboot.
4. Install the “Intel RST(e) Drivers & Software Set v13.2.4.1000 WHQL”, which you can get >here<.
Good luck!
Dieter (alias Fernando)
Hey Dieter,
Thanks very much for your help, and apologies for the lengthy lack of reply - other work meant I didn’t need the Raid, but now I do again! (It is working, but iRST reads an error).
To reply:
The MSI gt60 came with a double adaptor from 1 sata port which mounts the 2 x msata.
I’ve actually technically got 4 drives:
1. SSD - Win
2. mSata_1
3. mStata_2
4. HDD - Media
I couldn’t find ‘Intel RST(e) Drivers & Software Set v13.2.4.1000 WHQL’ at the link you provided, but did find it here: Modded Intel AHCI and RAID Drivers (digitally signed) (38) , and downloaded from Mega : https://mega.nz/#!YV9zRDDA!2rF0TpFLWWX3n…sCQzSpmjuDHYcvY
Is this what you meant?
No.
The WHQL driver is available >here< within the chapter I B. You have to click onto the “+” of the related spoiler.
Heya, so I successfully uninstalled IRST:
1. RAID disappeared showing disk.
2. Restarted - windows auto-detected and installed drivers - got format disk message (i.e. not yet detecting RAID), didn’t format
3. Installed IRST v13.2.4.1000 - Raid appeared as before, Samsung Magician test seems healthy, files fine.
However, it still shows:
Your system is reporting one or more events, and data may be at risk.
BTW the only page I’ve found clearly related to this issue was: https://communities.intel.com/message/237581
Any ideas?
After having done a Google search for “Your system is reporting one or more events, and data may be at risk.” I got a lot of hints.
It may be a BIOS issue. Did you already contact the MSI Support?
Heya, Yep I also have found hundreds of hints, including MSI non-existent support, and like I posted the Intel one was the only one that hinted at my specific issue.
To be clear - I have resolved this in the past (before total system reformat) yet it took jumping through so many hoops that I entirely forgot what I did that worked. That it has to do with Windows using their RAID driver instead of the Intel one, even though one uninstall/reinstalls seems to be the issue, yet I’m not sure or clear how to resolve it (and yes I have restarted with floppy/usb and installed Intel driver to MB, and rebuilt RAID, yet that didn’t work this time).
The Windows in-box RAID driver, which will be automaticly installed, has been compiled by Intel as well.
Ok, so could it be because the WindowsIntel Driver doesn’t match the IRST i’m running?
If so, know how to force windows to use correct driver?
OR any other ideas?
Is this even an issue? Should I just uninstall IRST maybe?
I am not sure about that, but it is not a good idea to run different/not matching versions of the Intel RST driver and the Intel RST Software at the same time.
Furthermore it is very important to uninstall the previously used Intel RST Software via Control Panel before you install any other Intel RST Software.
By installing the complete Intel RST Drivers & Software Set with the desired and compatible version.
First up - thanks for your help and advice, you’re doing great work here .
Yes I did everything that you’ve listed above.
After uninstalling previous IRST/Driver the RAID did NOT show up, nor when Windows auto detected and installed drivers, and only appeared after installing the Driver you recommended: v13.2.4.1000
I confirmed that IRST was the correct version.
If it helps the driver showing in Device Manager:
Intel Raid 0 Volume SCSI Disk Device
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver date: 6/21/2006
Driver version: 6.1.7600.16385
Digital Signer: Microsoft
This is not the RAID driver, but just the entries of Microsoft’s INF file, which is managing the Disk Drives.
If you want to see the in-use RAID driver, you have to expand the “Storage Controllers” section of the Device Manager, right click onto the listed RAID Controller and to choose the options “Properties” > “Driver”.
Ok, under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers it shows :
Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
Driver is (as recommended) Intel:
13.2.4.1000
And if I hadn’t said before - I’ve spent a long time with none of these issues in past AND had resolved, so doesn’t point to hardware failure.
Any ideas why i’m getting the ‘system is reporting one or more events’ error + RAID not showing in IRST?
@Morgs_B :
Your last post verifies, that the Intel SATA Controller of your mainboard is currently running in AHCI mode. This makes it hard to believe, that the Device Manager lists at the same time a disk drive named “Intel Raid 0 Volume SCSI Disk Device”.
Please take a screenshot of the Device Manager after having expanded the sections “Disk drives”, “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” and “Storage Controllers”.
Hi again, sure thing, see attached
Thanks, but I wanted to see the expanded “Disk drives” section and not the “Network adapters” one.
Woops, sorry not sure what happened there, wrong screenshot, see attached.
@Morgs_B :
Thanks for the correct screenshot, which surprisingly shows the Intel RAID0 array as Disk drive. The on-board Intel SATA Controller of your system obviously tries to simultaneously run your SSD in AHCI mode and your 2 HDDs in RAID mode, which cannot really work properly.
My suggestion:
1. Backup your RAID0 data.
2. Enter the Intel RAID Utility and break the RAID array.
3. Use the HDDs as single disk drives in AHCI mode.
Ah, doesn’t that leave me with no RAID?
If it wasn’t clear - my laptop is intended to run a RAID, it ships with it as boot, i’ve swapped the media drive for an SSD and use the SSD as boot, and RAID as media drive.
@Morgs_B :
If you really want (or have to) run the Intel SATA Controller of your laptop in RAID mode, you should better ask the MSI Support for a solution.
I have no idea how to solve your problems without removing any drives or changing the SATA mode.
