Hello Fernando! I have been having very strange issue with fast boot since I first installed Windows 10. Sorry for my English, I doing my best to explain situation as good as I can. From very installing, fast boot on my PC can work fine for weaks or fail fo 5 times at a strech. When it fails I have an error witch code 0xC00000D4. I had been loking for information and made a conclusion that this error caused by Intel RST driver. I have Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe mobo on Intel Z77 chipset, and the latest driver for this platform is 13.1 from 2014 year. When I deleted it, fast boot began to work properly (not completely shure, but it worked fine for 5 times). But without this driver I have a generic SATA/AHCI Controller in Device Manager. It works fine, but I don’t know, is it safe to use standart Microsoft driver. What do you think about this issue? Must I use Microsoft driver or old Intel buggy driver? I am not using RAID.
My specs:
Intel Core i7 3770K
Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe
16 GB
AMD Radeon R9 270 2 GB
ST2000DM001
P.S. On my sister’s Core i5 based computer (2nd generation) with Asus mobo on Intel H61 fast boot works perfectly in spite of driver dated 2013 year.
@Jewius :
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
The Win10 in-box MS AHCI driver is ok for many Intel chipset systems running the Intel SATA Controller in AHCI mode.
So if you are satisfied with the generic AHCI driver, you should stick with it.
By the way: The date of a driver has not much to do with its function and performance.
Regards
Dieter (alias Fernando)
Thanks, I will try to work with Microsoft driver. By the way, I noticed one strange thing with APM: after uninstalling RST driver and installing it again my HDD stoped using APM (I don’t hear specific “crack” anymore). With Microsoft driver it also doesn’t use APM. Is it normal situation or something goes wrong? Also I would like to try installing driver from Z87 platform but I don’t know is it safe.
I don’t know. Which Intel RST driver version did you install and how did you do it (manually from within the Device Manager or by running the installer of a complete Drivers & Software Set)?
You probably will not be satisfied by any Intel RST driver of the v14 or v15 platform.
I installed version 13.1.0.1058 using installer (setuprst.exe), but today after few reloads APM began to work again 0_o Very strange.
Why not? Are they buggy to?
To be sure, that the issue is RST(e) driver and not RST Software related, you should better install just the "pure" driver from within the Device Manager. I generally recommend it for AHCI users.
The Intel RST v14 and v15 platform drivers have not been designed by Intel for 7-/8-/9-Series Chipset SATA Controllers. That is why they do not work with these older chipsets as good as the older v12/v13 platform drivers.
Thanks, I will try it today.
And what about driver version 14.8.0.1042? Intel says that it compatible with Z77 chipset in readme.txt but it dosen’t install. I am always having error "no compatible hardware found". Is it just mistake in readme txt?
It is the latter.
Here is the complete list of the Intel SATA AHCI Controllers, which are supported by the Intel RST(e) drivers v14.8 series:
