Hi!
I’m thinking of buying the Lenovo A540-24API AIO Desktop. It comes with a Ryzen 4000-series (Renoir) APU.
I want to make sure it’s future-proof though and the 5000-series (Cezanne) APUs are just around the corner, which will be a huge upgrade over Renoir according to websites which I’m not allowed to link to yet.
So, I extracted the latest A540-24API BIOS update with MC-Extractor and noticed the BIOS only contains microcode for (up to) Renoir APUs. And since it’s not supposed to be an upgradeable system I don’t expect them to include Cezanne support in a future update either.
Is there any way to guess what my chances of success would be in modding the Lenovo BIOS to support Cezanne APUs? I’ve used libreboot and coreboot but I haven’t done proprietary BIOS modding before so I’m not sure where my expectations should be when I buy this. What’s the typical process for BIOS modding on a proprietary UEFI system where everything is soldered?
Thank you!
