ME N/A at Z97 ASUS Maximus Hero VII

Remove Power Supply Unit cable for 5 minutes.

Didn’t work, trying the beta bios now

Try also uninstalling DIP5 first.

ok bios says N/A but into windows and i went to load me drivers 11.0.0.1155 and it says version 11.7.0.1045 is installed ?
Does it need to load into windows to show the me in bios , should i downgrade the me version ?
@Sylar76

In windows in device manager under imei it has this
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
also this under usb
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

I think you have a faulty motherboard or something wrong. I’m very tired about this situation. All I can say is to have tried everything, thus
I’m very sorry I couldn’t help you.

Yes i think the same after i last posted the pc shut down after restart no imei in device manager i think it is stuffed .
Thank you for all your help @Sylar76 and @Lost_N_BIOS you guys have been awesome in trying to get this problem sorted out.
Enough time has been spent on it so its time to return it and get a new board. Thanks again for your time and efforts

Wow, I agree with @Sylar76 that should not be happening with ME, especially due to FPT operation pass 100% OK, and same with flash programmer. Both/either method should have fixed this problem immediately.

Have you done a ME state reset via fptw -greset or full power drain for over one minute+
Full power drain = Remove PSU connections, remove CMOS battery, press and hold power on button or short switch for 10-20 seconds, then let sit for 1+ minute before putting power back

If the above does not fix it, send me new current dump of BIOS contents via programmer dump, and I will see if anything looks wrong.
The above may fix it, since you haven’t mentioned doing either method after any of the ME flashes

I did the command reset with the methods before post119 but not after . With post 119 I did power cable disconnect for 15min but didn’t remove cmos battery
@Lost_N_BIOS

Full power drain from board for 1+ minute is all that’s needed (Including no battery), or issue fptw -greset command. That might not fix it, but it should be done any/every time you are updating/changing ME

So if I do it now may work with the command fptw -greset ?
I will also send you a dump of the file @Lost_N_BIOS

afuwin2.zip (5.56 MB)

Tried the commands again and power drain with cmos battery out still no good .
Could this be because I used the latest beta bios in the ftk9 program which isn’t unlocked?

I don’t know about BIOS you mentioned, or what unlocked means in regards to it. Please use latest BIOS posted in this thread, since Sylar76 made for you, I think at post #84

With post 119 I used bios from asus as the modified one would no work and came up with errors.

You are using a programmer, there should be no errors. What error do you mean?
Modified BIOS would work same as stock BIOS for method in post #119, please try again any error is due to commands given most likely.

None of that is necessary anyway, you have flash programmer to avoid this kind of hassle. Use programmer and BIOS in post #84, all problems solved as long as you erase chip, blank check, write, then verify in that order and verify completes correctly (Chip and buffer/main memory match)
After that, remove all power to the board, including CMOS battery for 1+ minutes and press and hold power on/off button or short pins for 10-20 seconds while no power connected to board too.
Then start system after 1+ minute with no power

I have double and triple checked that bios is erased and programmed, verified. Issued fptw- greset power disconnected and battery out for half hour still the same either the chip or bios is stuffed either way thank you and I’m done with this board getting removed now

BIOS chip can’t be stuffed, or you wouldn’t get verified after write. Something else is wrong here, either user error, tools error, or something on the board is broken (ME Is only in the BIOS, so not sure what could be “Broken”)

Only one minute power drain is needed to reset ME, no need to wait half hour or anything like that.

Hello, im having the same issue with a Z97 ASUS Maximus Hero VII motherboard , in bios it showed “ME N/A” i tried taking everything off… booted with just motherboard no ram CPU or anything
It resets at exactly 30 min from pressing the start button , after leaving it a day with no power / bios battery , and reconecting cpu and 1 stick of ram , went into bios and it showed ME version 0.0.0.0 instead of N/A, went to windows still no drivers / still reset after 30 min exactly.
In device manager it appears under show hidden devices and on properties → Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer.
Tried to reinstall driver , then uninstalled it (with check + delete files) and now it wont reinstall at all.
Ordered a new bios chip online, (left the pc off with no power / bios battery for days/weeks untill new chip came), installed the new bios chip.
It booted up and cycled through some codes on the motherbord display “thing”, then went to bios (code A2), checked the ME version = 0.0.0.0
Went to windows - checked device manager - stil no Intel management engine driver, left it on and it stayed on pass the 30 min timer of death.
Watched some youtube for 10-15 more min … i thought the nightmare was over , asembled everything back in the case , screwed in the last screw.
Turned it back on again started working , after 30 min again - turned off, went to bios version N/A again (from 0.0.0.0 wich it showed previously)

Tried to update the ME version from windows but it wont recognize ME at all , MEInfo shows :
Error 9256: Communication error between application and Intel(R) ME module (FW Update client)
Error 0099: Unknown error code
Error 9459: Internal error (Could not determine FW features information)

Dumped the bios regions with fptw64.exe -DESC[BIOS/ME/GBE/PDR] -D DESC[BIOS/ME/GBE/PDR].bin
Atached all i could dump , the ME region gives error :
Error 26: The host CPU does not have read access to the target flash area. To enable read access for this operation you must modify the descriptor settings to give host access to this region.
And the last one : PDR Region does not exist.
Cannot flashback the FD region :
Error 25: The host CPU does not have write access to the target flash area. To enable write access for this operation you must modify the descriptor settings to give host access to this region.

I tried to lookup a pinmod to unlock fd but i didnt find the realtek audio chip… its a supreme fx with a shielded led cover over it (didn’t see any other service mode pins to short)
I searched for solutions but cant seem to get anywhere on my own so any help would be apreciated (don’t have a programmer and it would take weeks to get one where i live, even the new bios chip was ordered in december last year).

The regions i managed to dump atached in DUMPS.zip

DUMPS.zip (4.54 MB)

Unlock the FD first with GRUB then u do the dump, not while its locked.
Then fix the ME [Guide] Clean Dumped Intel Engine (CS)ME/(CS)TXE Regions with Data Initialization
Use Bios flashback to flash it back in to system

Your mobo has a socketed/removable SPI/BIOS chip. Get a hardware SPI programmer (i.e. CH341A, @Lost_N_BIOS might be able to tell you more on that) and re-flash the SPI/BIOS chip with the latest ASUS BIOS after removing its 0x800 sized AMI Capsule Header at the top via a hex editor (i.e. HxD).
