Hi,
New here and not entirely sure where my question fits in to the forum so tell me if I’m posting in the wrong place.
I’ve currently got a Dell Precision 690 with 2 pairs of Raid 1 HDDs set up through the Bios (as opposed to done in software).
However I’ve just bought a new computer with an Asus x99 rampage v extreme MOBO and want to move my current HDDs from the Dell into the Asus, keeping the Raid 1 format.
My question is: How can I do this?
Are Raid controllers all compatible making it as easy as moving the HDDs from one pc into the other? Or is this going to be a painful task of backing up my data, wiping them, setting up the RAID, and then reinstalling everything?
Thanks

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
Questions:
1. Which sort of RAID Controller is on-board of the Dell system? Look into the "Storage Controllers" section of the Device Manager and check fo the name and the HadwareIDs of the Controller (right click onto it > "Properties" > "Details" > "Property" > "HardwareIDs").
2. Which one of your disk drives contains the OS and the boot sector? If you don’t know it, open the Windows "Disk Management".
3. Which OS are you currently running and which Os do you want to run in the future?
In the best case you simply can remove the 2 pairs of RAID1 array disk drives from the Dell PC and connect them with the ASUS mainboard (provided, that you had chosen the appropriate BIOS settings.
Not all RAID Controllers are compatible with other RAID Controllers. Minimum requirement is, that the manufacturer of the Controller is the same.
You may be able to keep and use all your RAID1 data, if the Dell system has a matching Intel SATA RAID Controller.

Hi,
It’s a Dell SAS 5/iR Integrated Controller and going where you told me I have 4 values for the Hardware IDs:
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0054&SUBSYS_1F081028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0054&SUBSYS_1F081028
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0054&CC_010000
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0054&CC_0100
It’s on a partition on one of the RAID pairs
Win7 x64 currently with no plans (or desire) to change
Thanks

@MatthewsonT :
Thank you for your quick answer. Unfortunately I have missed it due my travelling at that time. I am very sorry about that.
Now to my answer:
Since your Dell system is working with a special Dell SAS Controller and not with an Intel SAS Controller, I doubt, that you can transfer your RAID array and its data by simply removing and inserting the RAID members to the ASUS system.
Kind regards
