Hi, I have an MSI Z97 GAMING 5 motherboard and the screen shows “00”. I’ve measured the voltages of the RAM, processor, and BIOS chip, and everything is normal; however, there is no video. I have a CH341A programmer, and when I try to copy the BIOS for backup, it shows no content, meaning the Winbond memory chip is empty. I’m new to using motherboard BIOS. This motherboard doesn’t provide video, so flashing it with MSI tools is impossible because it requires the motherboard to be working. How would the BIOS be reinstalled on this motherboard and where could the BIOS be found? thank you
It is very doubtful that the chip is completely empty.
Most likely you have a connection problem.
On MSI, full dumps are often available on the official website, this manufacturer is not greedy for firmware for its motherboards.
Thanks, I’ll check it out
Make sure that your connection with the programmer is correctly alligned, the pins touch the legs (if it is SOIC8 chip, the usual bios chips with legs), unplugh psu and cmos, then plug the programmer to the device.
Hello, I unsoldered the chip and soldered it to a base that comes with the programmer. When the tweezers weren’t available, the result was the same: there was no data. I know it’s impossible for there to be no data unless the SPI chip was damaged. The component is the least of my worries. I wanted the original BIOS. I used the Me Analyzer to locate the region type and search for the repository.
I already told you where to get the full dump
Greetings, I located a motherboard, copied the BIOS, cleaned the area, and burned it into the SPI IC, and the motherboard booted up without any problems.
Thanks for your advice; it was very helpful.
