So I have an Asus P8P67 Pro (ver3.1) board. I installed the full .exe Intel RST driver version 11.7.4.1000 to see what OROM came with teh board. I went in to the Intel program and went to the system report and I do not see an OROM listed.
Q1 - Does this board have a different name for it?
Q2 - How do I find out what OROM version is currently on this board?
Q3 - What do you suggest; OROM version and Intel RST driver to work with this board?
Thanks
@ denaba:
You will only see the actually working Intel RAID ROM version from within the Intel RST Console, if you are running the SATA Controller in "RAID" mode.
If you have an AHCI system and want to know, which Intel RAID ROM version has been inserted by the mainboard manufacturer into the BIOS, you have at least 2 options:
- a) You open the original BIOS with the suitable BIOS modding tool, extract the Intel RAID ROM module and open it with a Hex Editor or
- b) enter the BIOS, set the Intel SATA Controller temporarily to "RAID", save the setting, reboot and hit CTRL+I while booting (after having read the Intel RAID ROM Utility version, you should enter the BIOS again and reset the Intel SATA Controller to "AHCI").
It is impossible for me to recommend a specific driver/OROM combination, because each user has other demands and each hardware and software configuration is different. Nevertheless I have layed down my personal favorites within the start post of >this< thread.
Well doing step B does not work for me. Weird, I never see the Intel RAID screen so I cannot press the Ctrl+I combo. Maybe because it is a uefi bios?
So doing step A, I got the hex editor open, forgot what to search for?
No, that has nothing to do with the sort of BIOS, but maybe with the sort you have installed the OS (in UEFI or in LEGACY mode). If you are running an OS in UEFI mode using the GPT partition table instead of the MBR one, you should find the Intel RAID ROM version within the BIOS itself. Just set the Intel SATA Controller to RAID, save the new BIOS setting and urn off your computer for ca. 1 minute. Then restart the computer, enter the BIOS, choose the "Advanced Options" and hit the right arrow button several times. Then you should see the tab "Intel(R) Rapid Storage", which will show you the Intel RAID ROM version.
If you have openend any extracted Intel RAID ROM module with a hex editor like HxD, you will see the version on the right hand side as text code at the beginning of the offset.
Step A - found it, it has version 10.5.1.1070
Step B - well it is UEFI, but I loaded Windows 7 as MRB. That’s what it says in the Disk Management.
But anyways I got the version now. Reading up on how to update.
Something to be aware of with ASUS BIOS is setting BIOS boot option "keep current / force BIOS" to "Force BIOS"
