Non-K BCLK Overclocking for Coffee Lake on Z170 possible? Need to decide on a chip to buy for this mod

Ill try to cut it short. Im not even sure if this is the right sub-forum, but I couldnt find a general hardware area either and its related to the CFL mod.

I am currently running a G4400 at 4.0 GHz on my ASRock Z170 Extreme4 because my 6600k died, and im in dire need of a new CPU right now. Maximum budget all in is around 150€ - Wich rules SKL and KBL out. I am not getting a dualcore or a low spec quad again…

The 2 options i have for upgrading are the i3-8350k (150€) quad or the i5-8400 (160€) hexa.

I already modded my BIOS to support the quad CFLand it still works, so theres that. Adding another microcode for the hexa isnt the problem The question is one that ive found contradictory info on. Will the non-k hexacore be able to BCLK overclock, or at least fix the multiplier to full boost clocks when installed on a modded ASRock Z170? The hexacore is only 10 bucks over the quad, but with 2.8 GHz base its not suitable for gaming. But its boost is at 4.0, so if I can run it at least there permanently I would be better off getting the i5-8400 for long term. Or will Turbo boost work at all? I am aware that additional steps like shorting 2 pins and a different MC are needed to get the hexa up and running, but it will only be worth the hassle it if i can get it to reasonable gaming clocks.

Peace
TK

It could turbo to all cores 3.8G so you don’t need to worry about 2.8G base…
We haven’t found any methods to overclock in 8th Gen Processor…
