[Offer] ASUS CrossHair V Formula Z MOD bios 2201

hi today i bought corsair mp510m2 ssd. I connected the machine externally. I see it as a backup drive, but I cannot install an operating system. after some research, i found the current article. I downloaded the bios versions you prepared, but when I try to install it, I get an error called "security verifcation failed". can you help me with the subject?

@drsncb

Did you try the Flashback feature to flash the Bios? If yes, did it work?

no it doesn’t. I tried flashback feature, I also tried to update biostan. not reading, I will go crazy.

@drsncb

Maybe it is just a corruption of the Bios during the download. You can try to download it again to see if it makes a difference.

I tried it on different computers. I opened it with different files, I tried different usb. It doesn’t happen, whatever I did, the money I gave was garbage. There may be a bios update protection, do we have a chance to remove it or cancel it in some way.

@drsncb

Maybe you just missed a step in the Flashback procedure to flash the Bios:

1- Put the Bios alone on USB key that is ideally formated in FAT32.
2- Plug it in the ROG connect USB port at the back of the PC.
3- Shut down the PC.
4- Press the ROG connect button at the back of the PC for at least 3 seconds. The light should start flashing while the Bios flash is being done.

That should do it.

My friend really pleased me that you are interested. and yeah it happened finally italized all the outputs in the safe, i pressed the rog button and the operation is ok :slight_smile: now the setup is left if i can do it right the worlds will be mine :slight_smile:

It happened at the end of what caused pain in my abdomen for 2 days. really thank you for your help.

Hi to everyone:

I want to update my actual PC, for gaming mainly, and I’ve seen this thread about the fantastic BIOS MOD made by @Phoenix48 , but, before to purchase a NVMe disk, I want to know if the model that I’ve seen is compatible or not with the BIOS MOD. I’ve been reading in this thread that the Samsung 960 EVO is 100% compatible, but at this moment, it is so hard to find it new at internet stores, and like all you know, the new model is the 970 EVO Plus, and here is my doubt with the compatibility with the BIOS MOD.

The Samsung 960 EVO is NVMe 1.2 and the new model 970 EVO Plus is NVMe 1.3, is there any problem or icompatibility with the NVMe driver added to the BIOS MOD???

Other question that I’ve is about the AMD SATA III controller (DEV 4391), with this BIOS MOD the OPROM has been added (thanks mate), but is knowed that the Samsung SATA III 2.5" (EVO and PRO versions) have problems with the AMD drivers (random BSODs, OS freezes for about 5-10 seconds…), with its OPROM added, do you know if this problem is resolved or persist???

P.S.: My goal is to use a SSD SATA III 2.5" with a capacity of 256GB for the OS (Windows 10 Professional x64) and a SSD NVMe with a capacity of 512 GB for games and page file.
P.P.S.: Which NVMe to PCI-e adapter do you recommend for this BIOS MOD??

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Regards.

This MOD works great with the 970 Evo. I have 2 installed 1 being an Evo+. The type of adapter doesn’t matter enough to make a difference, get one that you like. The most important item is a good Nvme heatsink. Best to put OS on Nvme or there is no point to MOD. It allows you to boot from the Nvme, where your performance will come from.

@RaskaipikaFWR

I am gratefull to @MailmanMike to be able to confirm officially that it works with a 970 Evo. I would have been surprised about the contrary because the NVMe module in the Bios was updated many times (Module v4 now) and compatibiliy problems were hapening mainly with the first old module v1 and very exceptionally with v2. I nerver heard problems with v3 and + of the module.

As for where to install your OS, it simply depends on what you want to perform better: If you want your OS to perform better and boot faster, put it on the NVMe (Better access time to all the drivers, system files, etc, all of which may or may not give you a little better in game responsiveness) but if your PC is only for gaming and you want your games to load faster and access any game files needed in gameplay faster, then yes, it would make sense to use the NVMe drive to put your games on it. The most obvious trade-off if you chose that last road is that you must accept to lose the bonus at startup boot time of the OS you could have get.

Lastly, for your question about the AMD drivers, i hope another forum user can answer that one because i can’t answer it more than this:

I don’t know exactly the setup of the persons that are having this problem and what motherboard and Bios they use but here is my theory: 2 things may be differrent with this Bios MOD compared to another motherboard having the problems you described:

1- Any Crosshair Formula (Z and non-Z) didn’t have the module AHCI OROM for the controller 4391 added originally in the Bios. This may or may not be their problem.
2- Many motherboards have their Bios modified by adding the NVMe module to add this fonctionnality. But they forget to add the Samsung AHCI module also. This module not being added originally and a Samsung 2.5" being almost always used with AHCI, this also may or may not be their problems.

So my guess is this: Because no one ever reported or even hinted at that problem in this forum within either this Formula-Z thread or my other Formula (non-Z) thread, i have to assume that this problem don’t exist with both of my Bios MOD (Z and non-Z). This is the best answer i can give you at this point in time. Of course, if anyone think they are having this problem, please report it to correct my assumption.

Hi again guys:

Thank you so much for your answers @MailmanMike and @Phoenix48 , like Phoenix48 said, I prefer to use the NVMe SSD for load games and the page file of the OS, because installed in a Samsung 860 Pro SATA III 2.5", the OS is launched (user and password screen) appears in 3-5 seconds sinde the POST disappear from the screen, I can live with that :stuck_out_tongue:

I will use a new SATA III 2.5" Samsung EVO 250 GB for the OS and a new NVMe Samsung EVO Plus 500 GB for games and page file (because many games make use of the page file for different things), talking about the NVMe SSD, I’ve been seen this adapter/heatsink for it, what do you think about it???:

Heatsink/adapter

At Amazon is expensive, but at another store form here (Spain), it’s ceaper, around 35€, I think is a good brand, good materials and cost, thinking that is a combo product (adpater + heatsink).

Again, thank you so much for your answers and help, regards.

@RaskaipikaFWR

This seems to be a good one. In fact, a very good one. I may not be the best expert in this but it is the first time i see one that is engineered to put a heatsink directly on the drive on both side. It must be very thermal efficient in a case with enough air cooling circulation and i am pretty sure that the drive will not throttle at all because of the heat with this one. Brief, this appears to be an excellent choice.

@Phoenix48 , Soon, I’ll purchase the SATA III 2.5" SSD EVO and the NVMe SSD + Heatsink/adapter, when I could make tests with them (about the random OS freezes for 5/10 seconds) to check if this happen too with this BIOS MOD, I’ll post the results to share them with other forum members.

The “problem” with this kind of SATA III 2.5" SSDs (Samsung EVO 860) and AMD/ASmedia SATA III controllers are described in few forums around the Internet, and mainly, the problem appears when you install the AMD and/or ASmedia controller drivers (working in AHCI mode of course), I can say that this problem happened to me with another ASUS motherboard, the M5A99X EVO R2.0 with a 990X chipset (that doesn’t have the AHCI module for the AMD controller - aka DEV4931).

The only solution (if we can call it at this way), is use the native driver of Windows 10, but this “fix” has a counterpart, the “Numberof Interface CRC Errors”, that is a SMART feature, if I’m not wrong, which value, is increased with the SSD activity.

Like I said above, when I’ll have the new SSDs (SATA III and NVMe variants), I’ll share the performance, mainly with the SATA III 2.5" vairant because of the problems commented, thanks again, regards.

I set mine up as a 500gb nvme boot with a 500gb nvme backup. I removed my Sata drives as they were pointless for my application. This beast runs great for its age. 1 FX9590, 1 EVGA 1660 ti sc ultra and it is fantastic. I do tweak the PCI frequency to 116. This would most likely cause errors with SATA drives installed. I have had it up to 120 stable. If I damage something I can repair it. There is a significant increase doing this (Benchmarks) I like to walk that razors edge - will it crash? Nope, no errors just an increase. I run at 4.8 turbo off as it only freezes even at stock settings. The RAM is 16GB Ripjaws Z at 2400.

@MailmanMike

I am curious… Is it because your FX9590 is only on air cooling that you keep the turbo off at stock settings?

To make some context: I had the opportunity to get a FX9590 but never took the time to install it yet. The motherboard i could install it (C5F non-Z) is currently on an air cooled FX8150 that is still going well. So, ideally for a FX9590, i would have to buy some water cooling before thinking of installing it. Nevertheless, i was always very curious to know if a FX9590 is able to run decently on air cooling without downclocking it. So if your answer is yes, that would give me a very good indication of its heat limit on air cooling.

I have a Corsair H100v2 installed. I was never able to get turbo to function as it would ramp up to 5.2ghz and freeze the screen. I tried with air cooling and liquid after it didn’t work. I have tried with 1600 mhz ram, 2133 and 2400. I can run a stable 4.9 but leave it at 4.8.

Hello and a HUGE thank you for all of your hard work! this is amazing.

I and a Friend both have the same Crosshair Formula Z motherboard. After awhile trying to update my bios with Ultimate Mod myself with no success I gave my friend my drive with the bios, his own pci m.2 adapter.
He was not successful at first but eventually got it to work with his own USB 8GB drive (PNY) I had tried 5 different drives myself. I have been trying again with no success. but I am wondering if my back flash usb is not working. when the motherboard has power but NOT turned on, holding the ROG button for the 3+ seconds, nothing happens, no lights blink. In addition to that the motherboard CANNOT be powered on at all until I toggle off then on my PSU. (I have even waited over night) When the PC is powered on and I hold the button for 3+ seconds the PC restarts and the small red LED blinks 2-3 times then turns off.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions.
The one thing I will be doing it going to my friends house to borrow his flash drive as we know it worked in his MB but because on how my MB has responded so far I am not hopeful.

Thank you again for your time.

@bullfrogberry

If the USB key of your friend is working for him then it should work for you too. The Bios must be in the main directory and named for Asus FlashBack (the last Bios v13 is already renamed for that). Also, the USB key must be in FAT32 or NTFS but FAT32 is prefered.

The only other thing i can think of that could prevent you to flash it would be if your setting for the ROG USB port in the Bios is not set to act as a ROG connect port. I never tested it but it is possible that if the USB port is set to act as a normal port in the Bios then it may not work to do your flash. It may worth a look to see if your setting in the Bios is set to act as a ROG connect port.

Finally, i also remind you and everyone else reading this that the first post is not updated anymore since a very long time and a Bios should NOT be downloaded there. The last Bios version is v13 and can be found in the post #338.

Bios updated to v14
